Full Job Description
Summary:

This position is responsible for guiding accounting operations to produce financial reports, as well as establishing and maintaining accurate and compliant reporting systems and records in accordance with established policies and business plans in a manner that maximizes the company's financial position. This position is also responsible for establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls, in addition to overseeing and preparing federal and state regulatory filings. This position will also supervise related accounting staff.

Functions:
  • Manage all accounting and financial control functions of the corporation according to Statutory and Generally Accepted Accounting Practices. Coordinate appropriate and required independent CPA audit and assist with examinations by the State Insurance Departments.
  • Oversee effectiveness of policies and systems for premium billing and collection.
  • Protect assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
  • Manage all aspects of corporate taxation in accordance with corporate financial and business plans.
  • Manage the reinsurance accounting processes, ceded, and assumed, of the corporation.
  • Maintain and improve accounting/financial processing systems and procedures for maximum cost effectiveness, security, and ease-of-use.
  • Assist the CFO in acquisitions and mergers planning/implementation.
  • Supervise Accounting staff and ensure their job-related training.
  • Participate in the corporate long-range planning process.
  • Ensure personal professional development and participate in industry trade groups and conferences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance or business administration required; CPA certification preferred.
  • Eight years' financial supervisory/accounting experience, ideally in the insurance industry, preferred.
  • Knowledge of business statistics, federal income taxation, data processing, financial techniques, and Property and Casualty insurance company operations and practices preferred.
  • Experience in supervising accounting staff preferred.
  • Ability to protect and keep financial information and plans confidential required.
  • Proficiency in office suite (MS Office Pro: Word, Excel, Access preferred), email and scheduling, and ability to learn company computer systems required.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, travel to all organization offices (including in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and South Dakota) and travel to vendor work sites required.
  • Ability to work in an office environment with moderate noise level, remain in a stationary position and operate a computer a majority of the time required.
  • Ability to move throughout the office to access work materials and to move work materials weighing up to ten pounds daily required.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation required.
