Controller
As a Controller, you'll play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of Genoa's financial operations. You will oversee the full accounting cycle, managing day-to-day financial, treasury, and accounting functions, while leading the development of annual budgets and financial reporting. With a strong emphasis on internal controls and operational excellence, you'll support strategic decision-making and champion continuous improvement across financial practices.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee the revenue recognition process across multiple projects in both Canadian and U.S. currencies, including the review of schedules for Work in Progress (WIP) and Deferred Revenue.
- Evaluate and strengthen internal financial controls and processes; identify areas for improvement and implement new controls to mitigate risk.
- Enhance internal financial reports and dashboards to support informed decision-making.
- Participate in operational meetings and assist with the execution of Genoa's broader organizational strategy.
- Provide strategic analysis and recommendations to support financial performance.
- Present and communicate financial insights to members of the executive team.
- Oversee the annual audit process, leading communication and coordination with external auditors.
- Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Manage the preparation of quarterly Board reports.
- Review annual corporate tax filings, offer support on corporate tax issues, and oversee compliance with tax and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with the CFO to coordinate Genoa's financial planning, budgeting, and reforecasting efforts.
- Mentor, support, and manage the performance and professional development of the Finance and Accounting Team.
- Taking on additional duties as required to support the Finance & Accounting Team and organization.
ABOUT YOU
- Degree or diploma in Finance/Accounting with 10+ years, post CPA attainment, experience in finance and accounting.
- In-depth understanding of ASPE financial reporting requirements.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, specifically in Excel and PowerPoint. Power BI skills are considered an asset.
- High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons or facts.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to attend and conduct presentations.
- Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
- Ability to work under pressure using time management and prioritize to meet set deadlines.
