Franklin & Marshall College is recruiting for a full-time Controller.

Job Details:
  • Location: F&M Campus - Lancaster, PA
  • Classification: Full-time, Exempt
  • Schedule: 40 hours, Monday- Friday. May require evenings and weekends.
  • Reports to: Vice President of Finance & Administration
  • Department: VP of Finance & Administration Office
  • Approved Annual Salary: $145,000.00 - $165,000.00

Job Description:

Reporting to the Vice President of Finance & Administration, the Controller is responsible for key financial functions for the College. This position is responsible for overseeing monthly and year-end close processes, facilitating the annual audit, and managing the purchasing, accounts payable, student accounts, and grant accounting offices. Working closely with the VPFA and external advisors, this position also assists with treasury management, cash flow monitoring, and investment coordination.

Essential Functions:
  • Oversee the monthly and year-end closing processes and prepare the College's financial statements for Management and other stakeholders in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Facilitate the audit of the College's consolidated annual financial statements and support the VPFA with reporting the results to the Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional financial regulations, including IRS, international payroll and other taxes, Department of Education, and other relevant agencies.
  • Lead and manage the Business Office, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, grants accounting, and fixed assets.
  • Establish and maintain internal control policies and procedures to safeguard college assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Monitor and improve financial systems and processes for efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness.
  • Assist with the College's treasury management functions including monitoring weekly cash needs, working with the VPFA on short-term investment strategies, and interfacing with the College's outsourced endowment investment advisors.
  • Assist with proper accounting and compliance for restricted funds, including donor-restricted gifts, endowment funds, and government/private grants.
  • Collaborate with Advancement and Sponsored Programs offices to monitor and report on restricted fund activity as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in financial roles including expertise in accounting, business management, purchasing, or related experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and financial reporting standards.
  • Demonstrated experience with accounting systems and financial software (e.g., Ellucian Banner, Workday, or similar ERP systems)
  • Understanding and involvement in the financial statement audit of a higher education institution.
  • Prior experience supervising professional staff.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite Products (Docs, Gmail, Sheets, Slides, Drive)
  • Evidence of a commitment to community and belonging.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful completion of background checks.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Master's Degree.
  • Prior experience using Banner.
