This is not your typical Controller role.If you think a Controller's job ends at closing the books and making sure everything ties out, this isn't that job.
You'll lead our Accounting team and partner with the CFO, Director of Business Intelligence, Operations, Project Management, and leaders across the company. You'll make sure the numbers are right-and help us understand what they mean, why they matter, and what to do about them.
You Don't Have to Be a Traditional ControllerYou may not be a Controller today. You might be a Business Analyst with a strong accounting foundation, an FP&A professional with meaningful accounting experience, an Accounting Manager or Senior Accountant ready for broader leadership, or a finance professional with a background in process improvement, systems, or automation.
The title on your résumé matters less than how you think. If you understand accounting, can analyze a business, communicate beyond Finance, and get excited about building something better, we want to meet you.
What You'll Do:- Lead financial reporting and close. Own month-end close, consolidation, and reporting-on tight deadlines, without compromising accuracy.
- Own WIP and project performance. Use WIP as a window into the business. Partner with Project Management and Operations on margins, cost-to-complete, change orders, and project risk.
- Lead planning and forecasting. Coordinate the annual plan and provide the CFO and Director of Business Intelligence with timely, accurate data to support cash management, forecasting, and decisions.
- Protect financial integrity. Maintain strong controls and oversee audit and tax requirements.
- Develop the team. Lead a six-person team across Accounting, AP, and AR, building a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Transform Accounting with AI and automation. Identify what should stop being done manually, redesign processes, automate workflows, and put tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, and Gemini to practical use.
- Be a business partner. Turn financial information into insight and action for leaders across the company.
Who We're Looking For:- Strong working knowledge of accounting and financial reporting
- Able to lead a fast-paced close and meet demanding deadlines
- Analytical, curious, and eager to understand why the numbers look the way they do
- Thinks beyond the accounting department and understands the broader business
- Naturally asks, "Why do we still do it this way?"
- Excited about AI and automation, while balancing innovation with strong controls
- Communicate confidently with Operations and other non-Finance leaders
- Willing to challenge assumptions-constructively
- Enjoys developing people and building high-performing teams
- Comfortable with ambiguity and energized by the opportunity to build
Experience and Education:- Construction accounting experience-particularly WIP, job costing, percentage-of-completion, and project forecasting-is strongly preferred but not required. Strong accounting knowledge, financial analysis skills, business acumen, and a track record of improving processes or systems matter more.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline preferred
- CPA a plus
We care more about financial acumen, judgment, curiosity, and the ability to learn than the perfect résumé.
What You'll Build:You won't simply inherit an Accounting department-you'll help transform it. Success looks like:
- A faster, more efficient close
- Greater visibility into WIP, margins, costs, and performance
- Strong controls without unnecessary bureaucracy
- Less manual work and more meaningful analysis
- Practical AI and automation throughout Accounting
- An Accounting team that operates as a strategic partner, not just a reporting function
Why This Role? The playbook isn't completely written yet. You'll lead an established team, work closely with senior leadership, influence how the business uses financial information, and help build an Accounting function designed for the future.
You don't have to look like a traditional Controller. You do need to be curious, analytical, financially strong, and excited to build.
Bring your accounting knowledge. Bring your curiosity. Bring your ideas. Let's build what's next.
