POSITION DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a strategic Controller to lead and scale our accounting operations across a complex, multi-entity organization. This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, maintaining a strong internal control environment, overseeing compliance activities, and driving process improvements that support business growth. The Controller will serve as a key financial leader, partnering across departments to deliver accurate financial insights, enhance operational efficiency, and support strategic decision-making.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Own a timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual close process with minimal post-close adjustments
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and GAAP compliance of all financial statements
- Lead and manage all accounting functions for 20+ legal entities across all Burn business models
- Own external audit process end-to-end, including preparation of audit-ready schedules, coordination with auditors, and resolution of technical accounting issues
- Serve as internal subject matter expert on complex accounting issues
- Oversee the annual tax compliance process across all entities, including review of information prepared by the accounting team, coordination with external tax advisors, and timely completion of federal, state, and local tax filings
- Design, implement, and maintain a robust internal control environment, including accounting policies, procedures, and control frameworks
- Recommend and implement process and system improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability
- Leverage emerging tools, including AI/LLM technologies, to drive efficiency, automation, and process scalability across accounting operations
- Oversee daily operations of the accounting team, including monthly financial close, AP/AR, cash management, and payroll oversight and reconciliation
- Own NetSuite ERP financial configuration and ensure integrity of system-driven financial reporting in partnership with FP&A / Technology teams
- Directly manage and develop accounting team (~4 team members), including performance management and hiring
- Support treasury and banking relationships, including covenant reporting, compliance tracking, and lender deliverables
- Partner cross-functionally to support business decision-making throughtimelyandaccuratefinancial insights
- Own chart of accounts design and governance across the franchisee system
QUALIFICATIONS
- BA/BS in Finance or Accounting, CPArequired
- 10+ years of professional experience with at least 5 years prior supervisory experience in accounting; prior Controller experience preferred
- Highly competent and experienced user of NetSuite ERP
- Experience managing multi-entity structures (LLCs, S-corps, intercompany transactions)
- Experience in franchise, retail, or multi-location businesses strongly preferred
- Strong working knowledge of revenue recognition, retail inventory accounting, state and local tax nexus, financial statement consolidations, and internal controls
- Experience building scalable processes in a high-growth, multi-unit environment
- High character individual driven by accuracy, integrity, leadership, and accountability
- Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail
- Demonstratedtrack recordof increasing responsibility, process improvement, and cross-functional problem solving
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability tooperateacross multiple mediums (in-person and digital)
- Strong interpersonal, supervisory, and leadership skills
- Ability to prioritize deliverables and meet deadlines
- Advanced-level user of MS Office products, especially Excel
