  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations related to student accounts and financial aid in collaboration with the Financial Aid Office.

Full Job Description
Albany Law School invites applications for a collaborative and experienced Controller to lead the accounting and student accounts (bursar) functions. Reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Business, the Controller provides strategic leadership and operational oversight to ensure the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of all financial operations. The Controller partners with senior leadership to support institutional planning and decision-making while maintaining strong internal controls and effective financial practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all core accounting operations, including general ledger, student accounts, payroll oversight, and cash management.
  • Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls in compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Support institutional budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning in partnership with leadership.
  • Oversee financial reporting, including quarterly management reports, variance analysis, and annual financial statements.
  • Serve as primary liaison to external auditors and coordinate the annual audit process and required regulatory filings (e.g., FISAP, IPEDS).
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations related to student accounts and financial aid in collaboration with the Financial Aid Office.
  • Manage banking relationships, cash flow, and institutional financial systems, including credit card and online payment platforms.
  • Supervise and develop accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team.
  • Partner with departments across the institution to provide financial guidance and support decision-making.
  • Contribute to process improvements, system implementations, and other strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

Compensation
The estimated salary range for this position is $90,000-$130,000 per year. The salary offered will be based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, and in consideration of internal equity. We offer a comprehensive benefit package including medical, dental and vision insurance, employer paid disability and life insurance coverage, 5% retirement contribution, CDTA bus pass, and generous time off.
