About the Role:

The Control Systems Engineer designs, develops, tests, and enhances advanced control systems, embedded software, industrial communications networks, and connected asset technologies that improve the performance, automation, monitoring, and reliability of SPM Oil & Gas equipment. The role supports the development of intelligent, connected products through integration of software, controls, wireless communications, telematics, and industrial IoT technologies.

Additional Information:

  • This position is located in El Reno, Oklahoma.

  • Occasional travel to Customer Sites is required.

  • Relocation assistance is available for this position.

  • Sponsorship is not available for this position.

  • This position requires working onsite five days a week.

  • On Call 24/7/365 to support customer drilling and completions operations

  • Some work is outdoors in inclement weather


What You Will Do:
·  Design, develop, and implement embedded control systems, software applications, and automation solutions for industrial and oilfield equipment.

·  Develop and integrate real-time control systems, sensors, actuators, and electrical/electronic control architectures to support advanced equipment functionality.  Create detailed electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.

·  Develop connected asset and telematics solutions that enable remote monitoring, diagnostics, predictive maintenance, and fleet management capabilities.

·  Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define requirements, develop software architectures, and execute verification, validation, and system integration testing.

·  Design, build, prototype, and troubleshoot control systems, communications hardware, and software solutions throughout the product development lifecycle.

·  Perform root cause analysis and technical troubleshooting of hardware, software, controls, and communication-related issues to improve product performance and reliability.

·  Evaluate and implement emerging technologies including industrial IoT, edge computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and autonomous operational features.

·  Support development of connected pressure pumping fleets, frac valve systems, drilling rigs, digital hydraulic controls, remote asset management systems, and secure industrial communication networks.



What You Have:
Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

Communicating Complex Concepts: Knowledge of effective presentation tools and techniques to ensure clear understanding; ability to use summarization and simplification techniques to explain complex technical concepts in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience.

Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

Embedded Systems: Knowledge of embedded systems and their applications; ability to develop embedded systems with varying levels of complexity to control the operations of the machine it is embedded within. 

Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.

Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.

Product Development in Manufacturing: Knowledge of methodologies, tools and techniques of product development; ability to design, build and manage manufacturing of new products.

Product Testing: Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.

Top Candidates will Have:

  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or mechatronics strongly preferred

  • Experience with oil and gas drilling, managed pressure drilling, well control preferred.

  • Experience with hazardous location certification is preferred.

  • Experience with programming PLCs, structured text, ladder logic, and LabVIEW strongly preferred.  Familiarity with J1939 strongly preferred.


 

Summary Pay Range:

$89,210.00 - $133,810.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
