Position Overview
We're looking for a Contract and Claims Professional to join and support the Rolling Stock business in Sacramento, California. Ideally, you will know about government procurement and contracts, negotiate and manage a variety of contract types, be able to manage and resolve contract matters, and support procurement by advising on, negotiating, and drafting supplier contracts. You will have demonstrated leadership, technical, organizational, and communication skills. We operate in a highly regulated industry, and familiarity with federal regulations in respect of DOT, FRA, and FTA is a plus.
We are responsible for the strategic management of contracts as well as claims and disputes that may arise in connection with those contracts. As part of our team, you will provide contract and claim advice during public procurements and contract negotiations, as well as throughout project execution, including the ability to draft claims, position papers, and other legal documents. The ability to efficiently and practically explain contract topics to our business partners and drive potential issues to a consensus decision is essential.
Preferred Experience
Law degree (admitted to practice in a U.S. or foreign jurisdiction) and/or commercial project management experience, and/or contract management experience
Experience preparing and defending claims against/from customers and suppliers
Excellent claim drafting and defense skills are necessary to effectively perform the job requirements
Validated experience identifying risks and opportunities
Ability to deliver high-quality contract advice and draft related correspondence within defined timeframes and simultaneously handle ongoing assignments
Detailed Responsibilities
Analyze, evaluate, and resolve diverse matters with customers, partners, and suppliers
Identify and guide the project team to successfully assert and avert claims
Identify and assess the contractual risks, opportunities, and requirements, and communicate the same
Cooperate with the project management team to define the contract/legal strategy for projects
Consult with management and draft official correspondence towards public owners and suppliers in a timely, clear, and professional manner
Defend against external claims from customers, partners, and suppliers through the presentation of relevant exonerative facts and documentation
Prepare for and participate in claim negotiations as well as pre-litigation matters, together with project management
Conduct legal research and writing

The pay range for this position is $146,472 - $198,288 annually with a target incentive of 15% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
