Full Job Description
The Managed Care team within IHS works with Providers and Payers on the complete negotiation process, including strategic preparation, financial modeling, operational preparation, at-the-table support, implementation, and strategic pricing. The Managed Care team is currently seeking a Consultant to join the team. This position is designed for a mid-career professional with strong analytical ability, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. The Consultant will manage multiple tasks within a project, prioritize workflow, and begin supervising junior staff while contributing to client-ready analysis and deliverables.

Location:

This position must be based in Chicago, Washington, DC, Baltimore, or New York and requires a hybrid work arrangement, with regular in-office presence based on business and team needs.

Travel Requirements

Willing to travel consistently (up to 25%), depending on project requirements and client expectations, is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Own workplans for analyses and manage checklists to ensure on-time, accurate delivery.


  • Handle multiple tasks within a project, prioritize workflow, and meet deadlines with minimal rework.


  • Maintain a system of records and documentation appropriate to engagement needs (models, assumptions, source files, and workpapers).


  • Collect, clean, validate, and analyze data from multiple sources to support negotiation strategy and financial modeling.


  • Develop and refine analyses and models in Excel; create clear exhibits, slides, and supporting documentation for client deliverables.


  • Conduct industry and market research (payer dynamics, contracting terms, market context) and synthesize findings into structured insights.


  • Proactively keep engagement leadership informed of work progress, key issues, timing, and availability.


  • Apply strong quality control and auditing practices, including reasonableness checks and independent validation of results.


  • Begin to assist and/or supervise Associates by delegating tasks, reviewing work product, and providing feedback.


  • Support routine client interactions by presenting analysis sections and managing follow-ups through engagement leads.


  • Contribute to firm-building activities such as recruiting and mentorship to Associates.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in economics, mathematics, data science, statistics, finance, accounting, healthcare administration, engineering, or a related field.


  • 4+ years of relevant managed care experience, preferably in a consulting environment.


  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.


  • Experience with additional analytical tools (e.g., Access, SQL, SAS, Stata, R, Python, Tableau, or similar) is preferred.


  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to structure ambiguous problems and produce clear, defensible outputs.


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to explain methods and results clearly.


  • High attention to detail with consistent quality control habits.


Salary Range: $90,000 - $135,000 per year.
Job title and compensation to be determined based on qualifications and experience.
