Construction Technologist Lead located in
Freeport, TX. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and field oversight of civil construction activities to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with quality standards and project requirements.
Reporting to the Construction Manager, this role serves as the civil construction subject matter expert (SME) throughout project planning, front-end loading, execution, and completion phases. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence project outcomes by driving construction excellence, supporting a strong safety culture, and delivering high-quality capital projects that meet business and operational objectives.
Responsibilities- Serve as the civil construction SME, providing technical guidance, risk identification, and best practice recommendations across project teams, including participation in the Construction Technical Solutions Team.
- Support Front-End Loading (FEL) activities through site assessments, constructability reviews, temporary facility planning, and development of construction execution strategies.
- Ensure compliance with EH&S policies, regulatory requirements, project safety plans, and safe work practices across all construction activities.
- Collaborate with contractors and EH&S personnel to review hazard assessments, job safety analyses (JSAs), and work methods to promote a zero-incident culture.
- Review contractor schedules, work plans, and progress to ensure alignment with project objectives, milestones, and budget expectations.
- Provide onsite oversight and coordination of civil construction activities, maintaining a visible field presence and supporting effective contractor performance.
- Monitor quality and construction compliance through inspections, review of quality documentation, management of non-conformance reports (NCRs), and resolution of corrective actions.
- Maintain construction records, site documentation, and regular communication with project leadership regarding risks, progress, schedule, and cost performance.
- Support project completion, turnover, commissioning, and handover activities to ensure systems and documentation meet project requirements.
Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent plus 10 years of relevant experience OR a relevant 2 year degree plus 5 years of relevant experience (e.g. supporting engineering and construction activities on large capital projects).
- Prior experience working on projects valued approximately between $20MM and $100MM is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing civil construction activities and contractor execution.
- Knowledge of construction quality requirements, inspection practices, and project execution processes.
- Ability to safely work in a plant environment, meet physical demands, work at elevated heights, and comfortably use PPE and safety equipment (including harnesses with a total maximum weight capacity of 300lbs). Must be familiar with or open to training on proper equipment usage.
- A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in Canada. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including any type of permanent residency support.

- Contractor Management: Coordinates and influences contractor performance to achieve project objectives related to safety, quality, schedule, and cost.
- Project Execution: Manages day-to-day construction activities, monitors progress, resolves issues, and ensures work is completed according to project requirements.
- Quality Assurance: Verifies compliance with specifications, codes, and quality standards through inspections, documentation reviews, and corrective action management.
