Full Job Description
Position: Construction Tax Manager
Reports to: Director of Accounting
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Pay Range: $110,000 - $150,000

We consider several factors when preparing a compensation package for successful candidates.

Superior is looking for a Tax Manager to lead and strengthen our sales and use tax function. This role will focus primarily on sales and use tax in the construction industry, with an emphasis on Ohio and other surrounding Midwestern states. The Tax Manager will support accurate tax treatment throughout the project lifecycle, including project setup, purchasing, billing, compliance, and audit readiness. This role is based at our headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead sales and use tax compliance and filing for data center construction projects
  • Provide guidance on sales and use tax, including distinctions among real property, business fixtures, personal property, taxable services, and contractor-use items
  • Perform sales and use tax analysis to support project planning and execution
  • Partner with Accounting, Project Finance, Project Operations team, and company leadership to ensure tax treatment is accurate and consistently applied across projects
  • Maintain organized tax workpapers, documentation, and supporting files to ensure audit readiness and strong internal controls
  • Monitor changes in tax laws, regulations, and guidance that may impact the company's sales and use tax positions
  • Drive continuous process improvements to strengthen the accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of tax compliance and reporting

  • Required: You have a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or a master's degree in Taxation
  • Required: You have strong Excel, analytical, research, and documentation skills
  • Bonus Points: You have experience with sales and use tax in the construction industry
  • Bonus Points: You have specific knowledge of data center construction tax treatment
  • Bonus Points: You are familiar with tax accruals, tax payments, and related general ledger activity
  • Bonus Points: You have your CPA, EA, CMI, or another relevant tax credential
  • Bonus Points: You have experience supporting compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX)
