Anticipated Hiring Range: $74,000 - $97,250 annually
Full Pay Range: $74,000 - $120,500 annually

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. The position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

About the Position

The Construction Project Manager (CPM) manages complex flood-control construction projects and components, providing technical management expertise for multi-million-dollar projects. The CPM ensures flood control structures are built to approved plans and specifications, making in-the-field modifications with appropriate approvals as necessary, so the final project functions as designed to protect people and property during flooding events. You will work closely with the Contractor, the Engineer-of-Record, and with various project partners and agencies.

We Require
  • Four years of experience managing large projects in capital improvement, scoping, design, and construction, engineering, architecture, urban planning, traffic/roadway, or related scopes
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, urban planning, public administration, business administration, or a closely related field
  • An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis


Other Requirements

Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire.

  • Public works project experience.
  • A valid certificate from a nationally recognized institute for certification in engineering or construction technologies and/or relevant public works construction experience, such as NICET, Certified Construction Manager (CCM), Project Management Professional (PMP), or OSHA 10-Hour / OSHA 30-Hour Construction


Job Contributions
  • Plan, coordinate, manage, and inspect flood control projects; oversee and coordinate the activities of Construction Management Specialists and contractors to assure projects are constructed according to standards, plans, budget, and specifications
  • Inspect and monitor projects under contract; resolve discrepancies between field conditions and design plans; recommend methods of resolving complex problems
  • Evaluate the need for design changes and make appropriate recommendations; review plans for conformity to engineering standards, constructability, and state and federal regulations
  • Write various analytical reports; make technical estimates of a specialized nature in connection with various projects; review laboratory tests of materials
  • Participate in the development of project design concepts and criteria
  • Assure project deliverables meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements. Perform technical reviews of shop drawings and other submittals
  • Determine and document work completed, and materials used; prepare monthly pay estimates for construction contracts
  • Attend pre-construction and regular meetings with clients, contractors, and other concerned parties to review project progress and to facilitate the resolution of construction issues. Respond to questions from citizens and agencies on the projects and construction documents
  • Monitor Storm Water Prevention Protection Plan standards to assure National Pollution Elimination System stormwater requirements are met


Working Conditions
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly, or requires walking or standing to a significant degree
  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration


Protective Equipment Required

Personal protective equipment will be required while on construction sites and will be provided.
