Manages construction projects for Carilion Clinic. Supervises work of Project Managers to ensure timely and cost-effective completion in compliance with functional requirements, organization standards and applicable codes.

  • Applies key financial concepts and analysis to decision making. Develops and implements actionable work plans with measurable outcomes. Continually assesses and reallocates resources to meet demands.
  • Prepares department operating and capital budgets, submits to Director and Administration for approval and performs in accordance to approved budgets.
  • As key liaison with clients, Carilion personnel, and external construction resources, holds self and team accountable for maintaining the highest possible performance standards, professionalism and ethical behavior. Solicits help from other Carilion employees to insure the clients needs are met.
  • Delivers efficient, consistent and timely services. Recognizes and acts on opportunities for growth and improvement to advance Carilion goals. Seeks out appropriate resources and proactively anticipates change within the market, industry and organization. Aligns services with the mission and vision of Carilion. Translates Carilion goals into department specific objectives and priorities.
  • Manages group of Project Managers and construction work performed by multiple contractors. Acts as General Contractor at times to coordinate multiple trades when such services are not covered under any contracts. Assigns/oversees work as needed to meet organization needs. Efforts consist of project planning, scope development, preparation of budgets and schedules, stewardship of design process and construction management. Reviews budgets and schedules prepared by Project Managers and submits to Director and Administration for approval
  • Leads creation of Project Management and Construction standards and procedures. Mentors staff, facilitates resolution of design and construction issues and achieves project completion in accordance with organization objectives.
  • Ensures availability of equipment and software needed for effective and efficient department operations. Provides related recommendations to Director.
  • Establishes and implements department objectives in compliance with Carilion scorecards.
  • Inspires enthusiasm and builds support for projects. Attracts, selects, develops, evaluates and retains qualified employees. Effectively uses developmental planning to expand employee skills and abilities and addresses areas for improvement through coaching and or corrective action.
  • Undertakes management of major construction projects under $5 million as directed by Director or Administration. Acts as Clerk of the Works on Carilion assisted project for a state university.
  • Ensures integrity of contractor selection process and resulting performance.
  • Works with Master Facility Planning participating in space planning and feasibility studies of project request.


What We Require:

Education: Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, business administration or related field required; OR Associate degree with more than ten years of related project management or construction experience.

Experience: 5-8 years experience in facilities management, design, construction, interior design or related field. Healthcare experience preferred.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: HCC, CHFM, CHC or CPM preferred.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), problem solving, and teamwork skills required. Ability to work in a diplomatic manner with diverse clientele, technical professionals, contractors and vendors. Position requires self-discipline, motivation and ability to make decisions under pressure. Experience with Microsoft Office desired.
