Full Job Description
You are an experienced construction professional who will work with Mikisew Technical Services (MTS), bringing a strong background in managing complex construction projects from planning through completion. You offer a strategic mindset, sound technical knowledge, and demonstrated leadership in overseeing construction activities, budgets, schedules, and teams. You are organized, decisive, and able to balance multiple priorities while maintaining a high standard of quality, safety, and compliance.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the strategic direction of the construction department in alignment with overall organizational goals. Set specific objectives, plans, and priorities for construction initiatives.
  • Integration and Collaboration: Ensure seamless integration with other department initiatives, promoting a cohesive approach to community development. Establish and maintain strong relationships with other departments, public groups, and the community membership.
  • Team Management: Manage construction department staff, including recruitment, performance evaluation, and addressing personnel concerns. Foster a skilled and motivated team.
  • Contract Management: Enter into and sign contractual agreements for construction projects. Oversee all aspects of projects to ensure successful completion and desired outcomes.
  • Financial Management: Develop and control the department's project budget, ensuring financial efficiency in project execution. Coordinate resource allocation for assigned projects.
  • Policy Adherence: Operate within and contribute to the development of department policies and procedures. Ensure adherence to established guidelines in all construction activities.
  • Project Delivery: Oversee the successful completion of all assigned projects within scope, on time, and on budget. Implement measures to address deficiencies identified during inspections.
  • Communication: Provide monthly progress reports to the Director, keeping them informed about project developments, challenges, and achievements. Act as the primary point of contact for resolving technical issues during projects.
  • Contracting: Bid and tender contracts for Technical Services in construction-related areas, including project estimation, scheduling, and vendor selection.
  • Collaboration and Budgeting: Collaborate with the Director in establishing annual goals and departmental direction. Assist the Director and the Controller in developing the department's annual budget, ensuring alignment with goals.
  • Adaptability: Perform other duties as required.


EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field IE: Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in the Construction Management role, 7 to 10 years preferred.
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM) preferred.
  • Relevant safety certifications preferred.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 AB driver's license and own or access to a vehicle.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Willingness and ability to travel to Fort Chipewyan on a rotational basis, and as required.
  • Willingness and ability to work after hours and/or weekends when required.
  • Must provide and possess a clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check.


WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Primarily office-based, with regular visits to construction sites.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions when visiting sites.
