Job Description

Zachry is currently accepting applications for a General Superintendent Field at NiSource Schahfer, Wheatfield, IN. This employee will perform job duties and responsibilities safely, efficiently and accurately while assisting project management in coordinating and supervising work activities for all disciplines at refinery construction project.

Responsibilities

Assists project management in controlling project costs and maintaining overall profitability for the project.
Examines project schedule (s) and coordinates labor, materials and equipment required for various
  • Monitors all work activities and instructs superintendents and foremen regarding desired labor methods and required equipment and material necessary to complete project tasks.
  • Assures all production work is within project specifications and continually monitors work progress and quality of work.
  • Assists project management in estimating and/or scheduling manpower requirements necessary to perform specific tasks.
  • Conducts regular meetings with craft supervision coordinating future job activities to assure continued productivity.
  • Inspects project work activities and serves to advise superintendents and foremen of possible hazards and assists all supervision in maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Coordinates with engineers, client/owner, inspectors, etc. to isolate project design and/or specification problems and assists in developing solutions to these problems.
  • Maintains project progress and cost data to assist in analyzing work efficiency.
  • Regularly attends and leads project safety meetings and serves to advise craft supervision and employees of specific work areas and conditions that require safety attention stressing compliance with Company and regulatory safety procedures.
  • Read blueprints and specifications to determine the scope of work: locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required.
  • Identify all tools required for tasks. Identify safety risks and the precautions required to eliminate those risks.
  • Manage workloads, supplies, equipment, and reporting.
  • Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain.
  • Demonstrated industrial history experience.
  • Read blueprints and specification to determine the scope of work: locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required.
  • Identify all tools required for tasks.
  • Must understand how to read and interpret technical manuals in order to determine work procedures.
  • Must be reliable, accountable, and consistent in performing administrative processes.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical demands: Arm/hand steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting. Will talk and hear to communicate. Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, pull objects, materials, controls, and tools. Give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand directions. May be required to lift, carry, and move objects safely. Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and work off platforms. Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception and peripheral vision. Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and steel-toe boots. Work environment: Will work in all weather conditions ranging from warm/hot - cool/cold. Occasional rain. Will work at different elevations.
