Construction Manager
The Construction Manager oversees the field execution of capital improvements, provides constructability input, and executes creative problem solving during each phase of the capital project process. This position interfaces with the Project team, plant personnel, and contractors to establish and achieve project objectives. This position is responsible for project construction cost control, schedule, scope execution, contracting strategy, contractor safety, billing, and project closing. This position is based at our Memphis, TN plant and reports to the Capital and Asset Integrity Manager.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide constructability input during project design phases.
- Determine project contracting strategy for field activities.
- Host bid reviews and preconstruction kick-off meetings with selected contractors.
- Develop and track project construction schedules in coordination with Project Managers, Field Contract Administration, and contractors.
- Negotiate and process field RFIs and change orders, assessing their impact on the budget and timeline.
- Implement creative problem solving for issues experienced in construction to prevent delays or budget overages.
- Oversee site construction operations by conducting regular site walks to monitor progress, labor productivity, and quality of work.
- Ensure contractor safety throughout project construction.
- Ensure contractor schedule adherence.
- Work with the Capital Quality Assurance Leader to ensure all QA/QC requirements are met.
- Ensure smooth project turnover to operations.
- Assist Project Managers and Project Controls with invoicing and project closure.
To be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5-7+ years of experience in the chemical, petrochemical, or power industry preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to manage conflict effectively while maintaining positive relationships.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
- Scheduling experience.
- Ability to facilitate troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts and team meetings.
- Experience with/ability to read construction drawings, P&IDs, and piping isometrics.
The following is preferred for this role:
- Experience managing the following activities.
- Crane lifts, lifting plans, and vessel and tank removal/installation
- Demolition activities, including piping, tanks, reactors, pumps, pads, buildings, and foundations
- Construction waste disposal
- Civil construction (piles, foundations, and steel installations)
- Piping, fabrication, welding, and field routing of piping
- OSHA 10-hour safety training (a plus).
