Construction Inspector to provide quality assurance and construction inspection services for large-scale building and infrastructure projects. This position supports inspection activities across multiple construction projects, with a primary focus on civil construction and infrastructure disciplines. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience performing construction inspections on heavy civil, roadway, structural, and public works projects, a strong understanding of applicable construction standards and specifications, and the ability to effectively coordinate with contractors, engineers, inspectors, and project stakeholders in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform comprehensive daily inspections of civil construction activities to ensure compliance with applicable standards, contract documents, plans, specifications, and project requirements.
• Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contract documents, submittals, Requests for Information (RFIs), and change orders.
• Prepare detailed daily inspection reports documenting construction activities, progress, deficiencies, safety concerns, and corrective actions, clearly identifying the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of work performed.
• Perform inspections of major reinforced concrete structures, including pile foundations, roadways, bridges, and related structural elements.
• Conduct inspections for the installation of sanitary sewer systems and storm drain systems, including related structures, in accordance with applicable City and County standards.
• Perform inspections of utility infrastructure, including underground utilities and related civil construction.
• Perform inspections for the installation of street lighting and traffic signal systems in accordance with applicable plans, specifications, and requirements.
• Apply knowledge of applicable City, County, and Caltrans Standard Plans and Specifications and the Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (Greenbook).
• Ensure compliance with multi-phased, site-specific traffic control plans, with a strong emphasis on pedestrian safety and routing.
• Apply and enforce applicable Cal-OSHA, contractor, and project-specific safety requirements.
• Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, installed quantities, and other construction activities as assigned.
• Assist in reviewing and validating contractor monthly progress payment requests based on completed and approved work and schedules of values.
• Utilize electronic equipment and project management systems to review construction plans and contract documents and maintain inspection records and project documentation.
• Coordinate with project managers, contractors, engineers, consultants, testing agencies, and other project stakeholders to resolve field issues and maintain construction quality.
• Perform additional project-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) Deputy Inspector License in either Grading or Post-Tensioning (Pre-Stressed).
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience performing inspection of Caltrans bridge, roadway, and structure projects, or a minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a Superintendent on Caltrans bridge, roadway, and structures projects.
• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in public works field inspection, with a focus on heavy civil and roadway construction, or a minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a Superintendent on Caltrans bridge, roadway, and structures projects.
• Proven expertise in the installation and inspection of sewer and storm drain systems, utility infrastructure, and traffic control measures.
• Strong working knowledge of City of Los Angeles, County of Los Angeles, and Caltrans standards, standard plans, and specifications.
• Cal-OSHA 30-Hour training completed within the last four (4) years prior to assignment/start date.
• Ability to work effectively and communicate professionally in a team-oriented environment.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including day, swing, night, weekend, holiday, and overtime shifts as required.
• Ability to walk long distances, navigate active construction sites, climb stairs and ladders, and access construction areas as required by project activities and applicable safety procedures.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Bluebeam, PM Web, ProCore, and similar construction project management and document control systems.
• Strong ability to review and utilize electronic contract documents, including drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational, documentation, and time management skills.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with contractors, consultants, clients, inspectors, engineers, and project stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Current Caltrans test method certifications in the 100, 200, 300, and 500 series.
• Experience inspecting major reinforced concrete structures, including pile foundations, roadways, bridges, and related structural elements.
• Experience inspecting sanitary sewer systems, storm drain systems, utility infrastructure, traffic control measures, street lighting, and traffic signal systems.
• Experience applying City of Los Angeles, County of Los Angeles, and Caltrans Standard Plans and Specifications and the Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (Greenbook).
• Experience with contractor monthly progress payment requests, schedules of values, and installed quantity verification.
• Experience with comprehensive daily inspection reporting and construction documentation.
• Experience coordinating inspections with contractors, engineers, consultants, testing agencies, and other project stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of construction quality assurance practices, inspection procedures, and compliance requirements.
• Experience utilizing PM Web, ProCore, Bluebeam, or similar project management and document control software.
• Experience performing construction inspection across multiple phases of civil and infrastructure projects.
Anticipated Salary Range: $140,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
