OverviewTRC is seeking an experienced Construction Inspector to support rail and general construction projects. This position will perform field inspection and documentation of construction activities to ensure work is completed in accordance with project plans, specifications, applicable standards, client requirements, and safety procedures.
The Construction Inspector will work closely with contractors, engineers, project managers, railroad representatives, and other project stakeholders to support the successful delivery of rail, infrastructure and general construction projects.
Responsibilities- Perform daily field inspections of rail, infrastructure, and general construction activities.
- Prepare detailed daily inspection reports documenting contractor labor and equipment, construction progress, field measurements, quantities, site conditions, safety observations, non-conforming work, field discussions, and project photographs.
- Monitor construction activities for compliance with project plans, specifications, contract documents, applicable standards, and client requirements.
- Read and interpret construction plans, drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Inspect construction activities that may include general infrastructure, trackwork, grading, drainage, utilities, structures, crossings, signals, communications, mechanical and electrical systems, concrete, and other rail-related infrastructure.
- Review material certifications, testing documentation, and other quality-control records for compliance with project requirements.
- Measure, calculate, and document quantities of installed materials and completed work.
- Coordinate with clients, railroad representatives, contractors, engineers, materials testing personnel, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
- Identify and document construction deficiencies, non-conforming work, field conflicts, and other issues and communicate findings to the project team.
- Assist project management and engineering staff with construction progress, schedule impacts, extra work, potential change orders, and field conditions.
- Monitor contractor compliance with applicable safety requirements and project-specific railroad safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate and organized project records and documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- 6-8+ years of progressively responsible construction inspection experience in rail, transportation, heavy civil, or infrastructure construction; or 10+ years of relevant construction experience.
- Working knowledge of construction inspection practices, methods, materials, and documentation requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, drawings, and contract documents.
- Knowledge of construction activities and trades associated with transportation or rail infrastructure.
- Working knowledge of applicable construction and OSHA safety requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn project-specific construction management and reporting systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around active construction equipment.
- Ability to work varying shifts, including nights and weekends, as required by project schedules and railroad operations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree or technical training in construction, engineering technology, transportation, or a related field.
- OSHA 30 Certification, or ability to obtain.
- Previous rail or railroad construction inspection experience.
- Experience working within or adjacent to active railroad right-of-way.
- Knowledge of railroad construction standards, specifications, and safety requirements.
- Experience with trackwork, structures, crossings, signals, communications, utilities, or other rail infrastructure.
- Railroad safety training or certifications, including Roadway Worker Protection (RWP), where applicable.
- Relevant construction inspection, materials testing, or safety certifications.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
Salary RangeUSD $42.00 - USD $55.00 /Hr.
