Position Summary The Accounting Manager will serve as the senior accounting leader, reporting directly to the CFO. This is a high-impact role responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, strengthening internal controls, improving processes, and supporting operational decision-making. The Accounting Manager will oversee all accounting functions, ensure compliance with FRF for SMEs and/or GAAP, and act as the primary accounting point of contact.
Key Responsibilities - Lead and manage the month-end and year-end close processes
- Drive process improvements to reduce close timelines and increase efficiency
- Oversee all accounting operations, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Payroll, and Purchasing
- Supervise and develop accounting team workflows and performance
- Manage bank reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and cash postings
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll tax filings through third-party providers
- Provide hands-on support in AR and AP during departmental transition periods
- Serve as the primary point of contact for financial reporting, including lender, surety, and prequalification requirements
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and internal controls to support audit readiness
- Own monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules
- Manage progress billings and maintain ownership of the AR function
- Address internal accounting issues and provide strategic guidance to leadership
- Improve systems, reporting, and ERP functionality, with a focus on automation and process optimization
- Ensure compliance with lien laws, including filing notices, retainage tracking, and bond claims/releases
- Oversee retainage tracking and reconciliation in accordance with applicable regulations
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 7 + years of progressive accounting experience within commercial construction
- Strong knowledge of percentage-of-completion accounting, job costing, and WIP reporting
- Experience managing audit preparation and external audits
- Solid understanding of lien laws, retainage, and monthly notice requirements
- Experience with construction-focused ERP systems
- Familiarity with tools such as Procore, Textura, GC Pay, Levelset, or similar platforms
- Proven leadership, organizational, and team development skills
- Demonstrated ability to operate in a hands-on, high-accountability environment
Compensation & Benefits - Base salary: $115,000 $140,000 depending on experience
