Full Job Description
The Configuration Management Specialist / PDM Manager serves as the primary authority and technical steward for engineering release workflows, product configuration control, and data integrity across Bascom Hunter's defense and aerospace product lines. Operating at the intersection of engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and quality, this role ensures product integrity across all program lifecycle phases. Key functions include administering the SolidWorks PDM Professional environment, driving synchronization between engineering CAD and ERP, checking engineering drawings against ASME Y14.5 (GD&T) standards, and maintaining baseline traceability for technical data packages.

Responsibilities

SolidWorks PDM System Administration & CAD Integration
  • Configure, administer, and optimize the SolidWorks PDM Professional vault, user permissions, folder hierarchies, and workflow states.
  • Develop and deploy automated custom datacards, serial number generators, and automated neutral file conversions (PDF, STEP, DXF).
  • Troubleshoot CAD file structures, broken assembly references, and toolbox configurations for engineering personnel.
  • Enforce ITAR/EAR access restrictions, CUI protections, within the vault repository.
  • Serve as enterprise process owner for Engineering Change Notices (ECN) process.

ERP Integration & BOM Reconciliation
  • Drive data synchronization and structural alignment between Engineering Bills of Materials (EBOM) in PDM and Manufacturing Bills of Materials (MBOM).
  • Establish and enforce standard part numbering schemas, revision conventions, unit of measure definitions, and lifecycle states.
  • Perform pre-release BOM reconciliation audits, verifying raw materials, standard hardware, vendor part numbers, and approved manufacturer lists (AML).
  • Partner with Procurement and Manufacturing Operations to ensure accurate part effectivity dates, serial/lot tracking, and production cut-in.

Drawing Checking, Baseline Management & Quality Audits
  • Perform technical checks on mechanical drawings, schematics, and interface control documents (ICDs) for strict compliance with ASME Y14.5 (GD&T) and ASME Y14.100, along with company policy.
  • Verify title blocks, revision history blocks, tolerances, surface finishes, material callouts, and military standard hardware references.
  • Establish formal technical baselines (Functional, Allocated, Product) for major program gates (SRR, PDR, CDR, PRR).
  • Lead Functional Configuration Audits (FCA) and Physical Configuration Audits (PCA) to confirm as-built hardware matches as-designed documentation.

Continuous Improvement & Training
  • Develop, document, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Configuration Management Plans (CMPs), and user guides for PDM and change workflows.
  • Provide comprehensive onboarding and continuous training for engineers, designers, suppliers, and manufacturing personnel regarding CM policies and PDM functionality.
  • Identify process bottlenecks and implement automated scripts, workflow improvements, or digital tools to shorten cycle times for ECO processing.

Qualifications
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, IT, or equivalent technical discipline (or equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience) is preferred.
  • 5+ years of configuration management, document control, and PDM vault administration in aerospace, defense, or high-reliability hardware manufacturing.
  • Expert administration of SolidWorks PDM Professional (CSWP-PDM preferred).
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD modeling and drawing creation.
  • Understanding of ANSI/EIA-649, ASME Y14.5 (GD&T), ASME Y14.100, MIL-STD frameworks, and AS9100 Quality Management System standards.
  • U.S. Citizenship required
