- You will serve as the lead for managing large-scale, complex software support efforts for Support Equipment (SE) end items, ensuring software robustness, safety, quality, and performance.
- You will provide leadership and technical expertise for all software engineering functions, including cybersecurity compliance, software testing, configuration management, and lab support.
- You will review test reports, evaluate research findings, and assess technical progress to support the development of new software support processes and tools.
- You will evaluate the development and design work of organic software teams and external contractors to ensure alignment with program goals and requirements.
- You will identify, develop, and enhance SSA processes and ensure all team members are trained in their use.
- You will generate requirements, perform feasibility assessments, and participate in all System Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR).
- You will oversee the design, development, and management of lab space and equipment for both classified and unclassified processing activities.
- You will provide guidance and mentorship to junior personnel and team members to foster a culture of technical excellence.

QualificationsI have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (DP-04/GS-12-13) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional COMPUTER ENGINEER performing some or all of the following duties: 1) Demonstrating technical expertise in software engineering processes, software testing, software configuration management, technical documentation, and developing specifications and contract work statements; 2) Providing oversight direction, management, and coordination of a significant technical effort; 3) Mentoring and guiding junior personnel and other team members, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement; 4) Leading Software Support Activity (SSA) support, including design changes, maintenance, test and implementation of data analytics, network, cyber security, and support software projects within the assigned system software; 5) Reviewing contractor research, analysis, design documentation, development, tests, or equipment to determine conformance with contract technical requirements; and 6) Applying knowledge of cybersecurity requirements and processes to ensure compliance and maintain system integrity.

EducationApplicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
