Location: Norfolk, VA

SUMMARY: WR has an opportunity for a Computer Engineer III to conduct research, development, design, integration, testing, and lifecycle support of computer-based, electronic, and embedded systems supporting advanced naval technologies and engineering development efforts.

Position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Support field operations, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electronic installations and engineering development systems.
  • Evaluate operational systems and recommend design modifications to resolve malfunctions, improve performance, or support changing system requirements.
  • Utilize computer-assisted engineering and design software to perform engineering and system integration tasks.
  • Support Linux-based engineering and operational environments, including system configuration, troubleshooting, permissions, and security management.
  • Manage requirements gathering, software development coordination, testing, and implementation of software/code into the FOROPS Engineering Development Model for final validation.
  • Ensure software releases meet deployable standards and maintain lifecycle consistency of deployed software suite performance.
  • Conduct technical research and planning activities to proactively mitigate hardware/software obsolescence risks.
  • May provide technical direction to less experienced personnel and support the training and development of junior staff.
  • May lead limited engineering tasks assigned to junior personnel.


Candidates must possess the following knowledge, skills, and experience:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • Six (6)+ years of full-time professional experience in Computer engineering.
  • Two (2) years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Requirements definition
    • System design parameters
    • Concept of operations
    • Risk assessment
    • Productivity studies/analyses
    • Performance analyses
    • Test and evaluation
    • Post-delivery support
  • Experience working within Linux-based environments.
  • Proficiency in Linux system administration, including managing, configuring, and troubleshooting Linux-based environments, as well as managing server health, permissions, and security protocols.
  • Experience supporting the software application lifecycle, including requirements gathering, development, testing, and implementation of software/code into the FOROPS Engineering Development Model through final validation and deployment.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining consistency of deployable software suite performance throughout its lifecycle.
  • Experience developing and maintaining System Administration Manuals and associated technical documentation.
  • Experience conducting technical research and planning hardware/software replacement strategies to proactively mitigate technological obsolescence.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Position Salary Range: $94,000 - $130,000. The listed salary range represents the typical range for this position. WR bases the offered salary on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual candidate qualifications, such as education, experience, knowledge, and skills, scope and responsibilities of the position, and market and business considerations.
