Job description
• Perform technical analysis on materials for ply-cutting, lay-up, and crush core processes that demonstrates production constraints and recognize opportunities
• Evaluate the current state of industrial capacity and capability relative to material requirements & propose changes to program plans to ensure that production cost, quality and delivery objectives can be met.
• Work with manufacturing leaders to established process documents and using materials for ply-cutting, lay-up, and crush core process specification.
• Create and update materials and process standards/specifications to support engineering and manufacturing practices, including establishing certification and recertification criteria
• Innovate and evaluate new material for use in ply-cutting, lay-up, and crush core processes
• Review, approve and document usage of material specification, cabin and industrial standards for ply-cutting, lay-up, and crush core processes.
• Implement best practices related to the ply-cutting, lay-up, and crush core processes; ensure standardization, and develop related documentation and training
• Develop and implement next generation processes, prepare advance technology, and transition from manual processes towards automation when applicable

• Measure performance across products/programs in these processes and work with Production staff to address and solve problems
• Train Production staff on new ply-cutting, lay-up, and crush core processes
• Serve as the Safran Cabin site expert for the ply-cutting, lay-up, and crush core processes, with the willingness to join the Safran Expert network as a ply-cutting, lay-up, and crush core expert
• Act as the focal for Industrialization on the ply-cutting, lay-up, and crush core processes as required during the development of our products ensuring that the best practices, materials, and processes are used in our designs
• Champion and implement Lean principles to improve process performance and capability
• Lead and participate in Kaizen and workshop events to develop improvement plans
• Identify, evaluate, and mitigate risks and possible failures within the ply-cutting, lay-up, and crush core processes
• Training and Compliance: Conduct training programs to educate production staff on established and new processes, safety protocols, and best practices, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and internal standards.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including design, quality, and paint departments, to coordinate process integration, resolve issues, and communicate process changes or improvements.
• Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on relevant industry standards, certifications, and regulatory requirements related to composite manufacturing processes, ensuring compliance with aviation and aerospace regulations.

Reporting to Industrialization leadership, as part of the Process Engineering branch, and working with the Engineering and Operations teams, the Composite Process Specialist focuses on the ply-cutting, lay-up, and crush core processes. They will lead the standardization and optimization of this process across Safran Cabin sites. This position will help ensure that best practices are being implemented in these production processes. They will monitor this processes' performance and help develop next generation processes, including automation.
Candidate skills & requirements
Education: BS in Industrial, Aeronautical, Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering
Experience: Minimum 7 years' experience with composites, ply-cutting, lay-up, and crush core processes
Computer Skills: Basic knowledge Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Other Skills:
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to establish collaborative relationships to achieve objectives
• Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with limited direction; ability to work within and lead in a team oriented environment
• Excellent attention to detail
• Project management experience
• Experience in manufacturing process set-up or adaptation
• Experience in problem solving and risk management
Additional Preferred Qualifications/Skills: (not required)
• MS degree in Materials or Industrial Processes
• Structured problem solving (QRQC, 8D, etc.)
• Lean Sigma (DMAIC)
• Experience with Industrialization processes, PFMEA or DFMEA, and Continuous Improvement Tools
