Global Compliance

Our division prevents, detects and mitigates compliance, regulatory and reputational risk across the firm and helps to strengthen the firm's culture of compliance. Compliance accomplishes these through the firm's enterprise-wide compliance risk management program. As an independent control function and part of the firm's second line of defense, Compliance assesses the firm's compliance, regulatory and reputational risk; monitors for compliance with new or amended laws, rules and regulations; designs and implements controls, policies, procedures and training; conducts independent testing; investigates, surveils and monitors for compliance risks and breaches; and leads the firm's responses to regulatory examinations, audits and inquiries. You'll be part of a team with members from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds, such as law, accounting, sales, and trading. We look for those who possess sound judgment, curiosity, and are able to adapt to a changing regulatory landscape.

Financial Crime Compliance

Financial Crime Compliance ("FCC") coordinates Goldman Sachs' enterprise-wide anti-money laundering (AML), economic sanctions and anti-bribery compliance efforts. The combined FCC team, which is composed of professionals with extensive law enforcement, regulatory, legal, compliance, forensic consulting, operations and business experience, administers an array of surveillances, due diligence, investigative expertise and other control processes designed to identify potential money laundering, terrorist financing, bribery, fraud and other violations of law.

Job Summary & Responsibilities

The FCC First Line of Defense Risk team is responsible for driving enhanced accountability, governance and financial crime risk ownership in core business activities across the First Line. Critical elements of this accountability include robust oversight and governance, effective risk management, support for new business activities, and focused client engagement with the business. This role is focused on managing and advising on financial crime compliance risks across the Asset Management business, shaping risk management priorities, influencing senior stakeholders, and driving enhancements to financial crime controls and processes. Accordingly, the role involves several key responsibilities:
  • Acting as trusted advisor and key point of contact for the Asset Management Business, appropriately identifying, assessing and escalating risks to relevant stakeholders
  • Draft governance materials and present FCC risks to senior leadership and Funds Boards across Asset Management
  • Advising on financial crime compliance risk for new products and transactions, including Asset Management businesses to be acquired by the firm
  • Supporting the timely management of complex escalations to closure, including but not limited to, high risk and potentially suspicious activity presenting elevated AML, sanctions, regulatory or reputational risk.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, including Sales, Compliance and Legal and to assess risk of potentially high risk and/or complex distribution scenarios and set out core Financial Crime Compliance due diligence and contractual requirements
  • Develop and implement frameworks and controls to identify, assess, monitor and manage distribution risk, including diligence of distribution structures to ensure intermediaries adhere to regulatory requirements and contractual obligations
  • Support with negotiation of financial crime-related representation in legal agreements and contracts with Asset Management clients, counterparts and intermediaries
  • Manage relationships with service providers to which financial crime controls are outsourced for the Asset Management business and coordinate their global oversight and related testing
  • Develop and propose recommendations to address identified issues/risks as well as areas and processes requiring optimization and improvement
  • Work with global cross-divisional partners, including Technology, Operations and Sales/Investment personnel
  • Collaborate with FCC experts across KYC, Sanctions, Transaction Monitoring and Anti-Bribery


The ideal candidate possesses strong judgment, leadership presence, analytical depth and organizational discipline, able to drive outcomes across multiple priorities. They will also have the ability to build strong relationships and advise senior stakeholders. Significant experience related to the application of AML, economic sanctions, regulatory compliance and financial crime risk management to the investment management business is prerequisite.

Basic Qualifications
  • 7+ years of Financial Crime Compliance experience;
  • Sound knowledge of US regulatory requirements as it relates to investment funds, global sanctions and anti-bribery laws
  • Sound understanding of Asset Management products, services and clients, including related financial crime compliance risk
  • Strong executive presence; capable of interacting with senior leaders;
  • Stakeholder management skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness to adapt in a fast-paced work environment; strong sense of urgency
  • Strong work ethic, driven, organized, and energetic;
  • Works well under pressure, effectively prioritizes and is able to multi-task


Salary Range
The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $85000-$140000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
