Full Job Description
SMS Equipment is seeking a Compensation Analyst to join our nimble and transformative HR team. Reporting to the Manager, Compensation, this role plays a key part in shaping and maintaining our compensation programs through analysis, insights, and practical recommendations. You'll partner with HR, Finance, Payroll, and business leaders to keep programs competitive, fair, and aligned with business priorities while supporting a strong employee experience.

Work Location:Acheson, AB.
Salary:$85,000 to $100,000 per year.
Work arrangement:Hybrid - providing the flexibility to work remotely up to 2 days per week.Schedule: Monday to Friday.

What You'll Do

  • Participate in job evaluations for new and existing roles using the Hay methodology, partnering with HR and the business to ensure internal equity and defensible outcomes
  • Review, audit, and maintain job evaluations and job descriptions to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment across the organization
  • Conduct market research and participate in annual and ad-hoc salary surveys, including job matching and data submissions
  • Analyze internal and external compensation data and develop recommendations for new hires, promotions, ad-hoc increases, and role- or location-specific reviews
  • Support HR and business partners with compensation analysis related to base pay, incentive programs, and hourly terms and conditions
  • Perform cost and risk analysis to assess the business impact of compensation program changes and support informed decision-making
  • Contribute to compensation-related projects, including research, process reviews, tool improvements, and implementation of approved changes
  • Assist with pay equity and pay transparency analysis, reporting, and communication
  • Support annual compensation cycles and ongoing compensation administration, including data audits and collaboration with HRIS and Payroll.


What You Bring

This position requires a minimum of 2 years of compensation experience and 2 years of broader HR experience, with progressive exposure to compensation programs and data analysis. The successful candidate will also possess a degree or diploma in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Data Analysis, or a related field. Additional qualifications include:

  • Experience participating in job evaluations, with Hay Methodology considered a strong asset.
  • Intermediate Excel skills, including working with data from multiple sources (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, formulas, and charts).
  • Experience analyzing internal and external compensation data and translating insights into clear, defensible recommendations.
  • Familiarity with participating in third-party compensation surveys and market data platforms.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to assess cost, risk, and business impact.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with HR, Finance, Payroll, and business partners using a professional, service-oriented approach.
  • High degree of discretion, confidentiality, and sound professional judgement when handling sensitive compensation information.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present data-driven insights in clear, business-focused language.
