Overview

The Community Chief Nursing Officer provides recommendations, assistance and oversight in the development and implementation of effective nursing services, education and infection control programs.  Recommends safe and cost-effective nursing staffing patterns and for assisting in the implementation and evaluation of the nursing process.

Responsibilities

• Assists with education and training activities for Nursing Service employees, including program development, learning needs assessments, coordination of corporate and local programs, delivery of educational programs, and evaluation of program effectiveness.

• Assists with implementation and evaluation of the nursing process, including identification of patient needs, development of patient care plans, implementation of care plans, evaluation of patient responses, and assessment of appropriateness of care.

• Assists in the development and implementation of nursing quality assessment activities.

• Assists in the development and implementation of the Nursing Service Infection Control Program.

• Assists in the development of staffing patterns for the Nursing Service Department.

• Coordinates preparations to ensure compliance with Joint Commission Nursing Care Standards.

• Develops, evaluates, implements, interprets, and maintains hospital plans, work standards, and procedures for clinical nursing practice in compliance with hospital policies, governmental regulations, and regulatory agency requirements.

• Serves as a role model for nursing staff by adhering to established policies and procedures.

• Participates as a member of the hospital management team and contributes to hospital strategic planning activities.

• Interprets and supports the role of nursing within the hospital's strategic plans.

• Manages personnel functions including interviewing, selecting, evaluating, disciplining, terminating personnel, or recommending such actions as necessary.

• Ensures employees receive orientation and required in-service education.

• Ensures nursing personnel maintain required licensure and certifications.

• Ensures nursing education programs are developed and presented to promote clinical competency and staff development.

• Determines staffing needs and staffing patterns and recommends appropriate staffing levels and classifications consistent with approved position authorizations.

• Administers Bargaining Agreements at the local level as they pertain to Nursing Service personnel.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Education

• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required.

Experience

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Nursing supervision and/or administration required.

• Formalized training and/or experience in effective management techniques required.
