Position SummaryThe Communications Superintendent oversees all communications installation and maintenance activities on rail and transit projects. This role ensures that work is completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with project specifications, company standards, and regulatory requirements. The Communications Superintendent manages field crews, coordinates with project managers and engineers, and provides leadership to ensure high-quality installation and system performance.
Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties- Supervise and manage communications installation crews, ensuring safe and efficient work practices.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate all communications installation and maintenance activities on project sites.
- Ensure compliance with project drawings, specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and field teams to resolve technical or operational issues.
- Conduct inspections and quality control checks to verify workmanship and system functionality.
- Maintain accurate records of project progress, personnel, materials, and equipment.
- Mentor and train field staff, promoting best practices in safety, installation procedures, and technical skills.
- Assist in resource allocation, labor tracking, and equipment management.
- Represent RailWorks in client meetings, audits, and project reviews related to communications systems.
Required Skills and Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in communications, electronics, or related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in communications installation and management, preferably in rail or heavy civil projects.
- Strong knowledge of rail communication systems, cabling standards, and installation best practices.
- Proven leadership and crew management experience on construction or rail projects.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project tracking tools.
- Ability to work in varying outdoor conditions and travel to project sites.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions- Primarily field-based with frequent site visits to active construction areas.
- Frequent standing, walking, climbing, and lifting (up to 50 lbs).
- Exposure to noise, dust, vibration, and outdoor weather conditions.
- Must adhere to all safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
