ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  1. Strategic Leadership & Planning (13%)
    • Develop and lead an integrated communications and marketing strategy for internal and external audiences, aligned with organizational goals, community needs, and cross-department priorities.
    • Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on messaging, positioning, and reputation, translating complex healthcare initiatives into clear, audience-specific communications.
  2. Digital Presence & Content Ecosystem (32%)
    • Established organizational brand standards, messaging frameworks, visual identity guidelines, and communication policies across all departments.
    • Lead the organization's digital strategy across website, social media, content governance, and multimedia storytelling, ensuring alignment with brand and organizational priorities, while maintaining a consistent, compelling brand voice, narrative, and tone across all platforms and channels and final approval of key digital content.
    • Oversee and manage external vendors (web, social, analytics, video), providing direction, accountability, and performance oversight to ensure delivery of accessible (WCAG), SEO-optimized, and user-centered (UX) digital experiences aligned with organizational standards and priorities.
  3. Media Relations, Issues & Reputation Management (25%)
    • Develop and oversee strategic marketing campaigns supporting patient growth, provider recruitment, new service lines, and organizational priorities.
    • Lead media and public relations efforts, including press outreach, executive visibility, crisis communication, and reputation management.
    • Oversee online review and inquiry response workflows, in coordination with Patient Relations and Operations teams, ensuring timely, accurate, and brand-aligned responses.
  4. Internal Communications & Change Management (20%)
    • Develop and lead internal communications and change management strategies to support organizational alignment, engagement, and effective rollout of initiatives, while providing strategic communications direction for organizational events and community engagement to ensure alignment with brand standards and messaging.
    • Provide hands-on support in developing and refining high-impact marketing materials and visual assets as needed, ensuring brand consistency.
  5. Measurement, Budget & Improvement (10%)
    • Establish and monitor performance metrics through dashboards and analytics, using insights to inform decision making, guide resource allocation, and drive continuous improvement, while overseeing communications and marketing budgets to ensure effective and strategic use of resources.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  1. Education: Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, graphic design, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  2. Licensure: None required. APR (Accredited in Public Relations) preferred.
  3. Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience; or, in lieu of a degree, seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience. Experience overseeing digital platforms, vendors, and media relations. Experience in healthcare, nonprofit, or mission-driven environments preferred.
  4. Skills: Strong visual and creative judgment; ability to produce high-quality materials when required. Ability to maintain strong role boundaries to safeguard strategic capacity. Advanced knowledge of marketing analytics, strategic planning, and brand governance.
  5. Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate change, strong crisis and executive communications, and reputation management
  6. Physical Effort: Must be able to sit, stand, and or walk for an entire workday. Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and or twist while holding up to 25 lbs. occasionally
  7. Hours of Work: Full time; Flexible and varied work hours may be required, including occasional evenings or weekends for project deadlines or site visits. Hybrid may be available after training period.
  8. Travel: Valid Michigan driver's license and reliable transportation. Travel throughout GLBHC's service area required. Evening and weekend travel may be required for fundraising events, community activities, and donor engagement.
