I. Job Summary

This communications position will report up through the corporate external communications team and will contribute to the communications strategy to include leading content (video and written) production for owned channels (social media, media room).

The communications manager is responsible for contributing to content that supports media pitching for executing interviews. This role will also coordinate to create video and written content and will oversee onsite production of any video shoots.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.
  • Works across the team and across the company to create and coordinate the planning and execution of content communications plans.
  • Contributes to video and written content for placement on WM-owned channels to include the media room and social media. Oversees onsite video production. Edits video when needed.
  • Supports the broader external communications team during special events and contributes to other communications work as assigned.

A. Education and Experience

Education: Bachelor's Degree (accredited), or equivalent experience in Communication, Journalism or Public Relations.

Experience:

Required: 5-7 years of overall communications, media or media relations experience.

Preferred: 2-4 years of experience in proactive media pitching and execution.

Preferred: 2-4 years of video production experience.

Preferred: 2-4 years of social media experience.

B. Other Knowledge Skills or Abilities:
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, but also be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize requests and leverage communications resources in a matrixed environment for business requests.
  • Ability to craft impactful storytelling, including written and video products.
  • Highly organized and able to prioritize under pressure.
  • Comfortable with role that interfaces with senior leadership

D. Travel Requirements:

Position may require up to 10% travel.

IV. Supervisory Responsibilities:

The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of managerial employees. This may include direct supervision of full-time communications employees.
