POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for the day-to-day management and coordination of the City's Discover Downtown Rosenberg Program and Historic District initiatives, the planning and production of all City-Sponsored Special Events, and communications duties as assigned. Duties include planning, coordinating, and managing of city-wide special events and programs, supports downtown merchants business engagement efforts; and oversees tourism, marketing, and promotional activities related to the Discover Downtown Rosenberg Program and Historic Downtown Rosenberg and Communications Department needs such as developing and executing communications, public information, marketing projects, including production and development of social and digital media content in a manner that promotes a positive and consistent image of the City as a whole, that is in line with the goals, objectives, and values of the City of Rosenberg and Community Services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Selects, supervises, and evaluates assigned staff
    • Establishes work rules and performance standards, annual performance evaluations, and initiates and implements disciplinary actions as warranted
    • Provides for the training and motivation of subordinates in order to make full use of individual capabilities and to meet changing system demands
  • Under direction of the Executive Director of Community Services, manages the Discover Downtown Rosenberg program, the historic downtown Rosenberg district and all downtown related projects, initiatives, repairs, property management, tourism, business retention and marketing campaigns. Serves as the point of contact for the downtown merchants and City.
  • Responsible for the planning, execution of and management of all City-wide special events
    • Event development, budgeting, scheduling, logistics, vendor and entertainment procurement, contract administration, sponsorship fulfillment, marketing and promotion, volunteer coordination, on-site event management, and post-event evaluation.
    • Serves as the primary point of contact for event partners, vendors, contractors, performers, sponsors, and participating organizations to ensure successful event delivery and compliance with City policies and procedures.
  • Serves as project lead for development, execution, and analysis of internal and external communications for social and digital media platforms, the city's website, and printed marketing efforts including development of effective messaging, content strategy, and scheduling for social media communications and engagement
    • Responsible for content creation for the Communications City Pages as well of oversight and monitoring of all other City social media pages
    • Assists with design development and creation of print and digital communications as needed, such as newsletters, website updates, calendars, brochures, posters, fliers, and advertisements within production deadlines
    • Assists in the creation, editing, updating, and scheduling of content for the city's website, television channel, and printed/electronically distributed materials in order to maintain engagement levels with fresh, relevant information
    • Assists in the development and delivery of online and printed communication
    • Assists with photography and videography needs using a variety of professional-grade equipment
  • Researches and identifies new strategies to reach the public and the City as a whole
  • Monitors and engages with the community on various digital communication channels, including on posts, comments, messages, and inquiries from members of the public in an inviting, authentic, and professional manner to build trust, foster conversations, create transparency and ultimately improve our service to the community
  • Writes compelling and informative copies for various social media postings, newsletters, blogs, websites, and other internal and external communications, informational, and instructional pieces as required while meeting City organizational standards for writing, style, and grammar
  • Gathers information, prepares and maintains reports, and related departmental documentation, prepares distribution instructions, and reviews and verifies information
  • Maintains a healthy and safe working environment
  • Will be required to do in-city travel
  • Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates degree in Business Administration, Information Processing, Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field
  • Three (3) years full-time paid responsible administrative or clerical experience in Communications, Marketing, or Advertising
  • Training and experience using a personal computer with a variety of software including Microsoft Office

OR
  • High School diploma or successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) Test
  • Five (5) years full-time paid responsible administrative or clerical experience in Communications, Marketing, or Advertising
  • Training and experience using a personal computer with a variety of software including Microsoft Office

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Class C Texas Driver's License
    • Reliable transportation and liability insurance
