Principal Responsibility:

The Communications Coordinator provides operational, administrative, and content support for St. Anthony's communications function. Reporting to the Director of Communications, this position coordinates projects, maintains communications systems, supports content production, tracks performance metrics, and helps execute initiatives that advance fundraising, storytelling, thought leadership, and community engagement goals. In the spirit of our Franciscan values and heritage, our team provides compassion and care daily. As a steward of healing and social justice, you are expected to meet the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Communication and Community Engagement
  • Support the day-to-day management of social media channels, including scheduling posts, monitoring engagement, and responding to inquiries and comments in alignment with brand guidelines
  • Support the Digital Marketing Manager in the production and scheduling of social media content, including copy, graphics, and short-form video, in alignment with organizational messaging and campaign priorities.
  • Support the development of communications materials, including press releases, newsletters, event briefs, talking points, and website copy, under the direction of the Strategic Communications Manager.
  • Assist with proofreading and editing content across channels to ensure accuracy, brand consistency, and editorial quality.
  • Coordinate the production and distribution of internal communications, including Friday Notes weekly internal newsletter.
  • Assist in maintaining and organizing the organization's digital asset library, including photo and video archives.
  • Coordinate communications support for strategic partnerships, coalition activities, donor engagement events, and community convenings.
  • Assist with the production of stakeholder communications, event materials, and partner recognition content.
  • Maintain and organize communication assets, case statements, impact stories, and program spotlights and other resources for use by Development, Executive, and Communication staff.
  • Support the development and production of event communications materials, including invitations, event briefs, talking points, signage, attendee communications, presentation materials, and post-event stewardship content.
  • Coordinate logistics and communications support for speaking engagements, media opportunities, community forums, coalition meetings, and partner events.
  • Support documentation and storytelling related to collaborative community initiatives.

Program Administration and Operations
  • Compile monthly communications performance reports, including media coverage, website traffic, social engagement, email performance, and campaign metrics.
  • Track key communications indicators tied to organizational influence, audience growth, stakeholder engagement, and fundraising performance.
  • Support post-campaign reporting and evaluation efforts.
  • Track and coordinate communications projects using editorial calendars, project management tools, and communications workflows.
  • Support the preparation and quality control of executive communications materials, including talking points, speaking notes, briefing documents, presentations, and stakeholder correspondence.
  • Support the Strategic Communications Manager in aligning editorial priorities with fundraising campaigns, stewardship activities, thought leadership opportunities, and organizational initiatives.
  • Coordinate content gathering, impact data collection, story sourcing, and material preparation for donor communications, public awareness campaigns, and stakeholder engagement efforts.
  • Coordinate logistics for photography, video, media, and storytelling projects.
  • Maintain media contact databases, stakeholder lists, partnership records, and communications systems.
  • Track media coverage, speaking engagements, award nominations, public appearances, and thought leadership opportunities.
  • Monitor media coverage, policy developments, social media trends, and community conversations relevant to St. Anthony's mission and share insights with the communications team.
  • Manage inventory and ordering of communications collateral, branded materials, and promotional items.
  • Schedule meetings, take meeting notes, send follow-up communications
  • Enter data and information electronically as required. Looks up data and reports electronically through a database as requested.
  • Understand and follow the organization's programs, policies, and procedures
  • Participate in regular training and development opportunities to increase personal capacity to apply innovative approaches to daily workflows, service delivery, and functions of the position.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 2-4 years of professional experience in communications, social media, or related fields.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills with attention to detail and ability to edit for quality and accuracy.
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms and best practices for content creation, community management, and engagement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace; familiarity with social media scheduling tools and content management systems such as Sprout a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Commitment to social justice, community, and the mission of St. Anthony's.
  • Experience with photography, video, or graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) a plus.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, exercise good judgment, and handle high-pressure situations with donors, the media, vendors and others.
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, oral, and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to be polite, diplomatic, and firm. Can set limits and practice professional boundaries with guests, volunteers, donors, and coworkers.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or another language spoken in the Tenderloin community a plus.
  • Availability for evening and weekend events as needed.
  • Experience working in a non-profit or community-based social service agency with people experiencing homelessness or poverty desired.
