Description

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Leader of Strategic Sourcing, the Commodity Manager is responsible for leading commodity strategy for castings, extrusions, and sheet metal components manufactured primarily from steel and aluminum. This role develops and executes group-wide sourcing strategies that support all Centers for Manufacturing Excellence (CMEs), driving measurable cost improvement, strengthening supplier partnerships, and enhancing supply resilience.

This position requires strong technical capability, commercial rigor, and the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders. The Commodity Manager will work closely with Engineering, Operations, and supplier partners to improve manufacturability, optimize cost structures, and align sourcing strategies with long-term business objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and execute multi-brand commodity strategies for steel and aluminum castings, extrusions, and sheet metal fabrications.
  • Partner with Centers for Manufacturing Excellence (CMEs) to align sourcing strategies with operational and capacity requirements.
  • Consolidate spend across brands and CMEs to increase leverage and deliver sustained year-over-year cost reductions.
  • Standardize CME purchasing requirements (specs, quality, packaging, logistics, and commercial terms) where practical so volumes can be bundled and sourced under group contracts.
  • Lead competitive sourcing initiatives, contract negotiations, and long-term supplier agreements.
  • Provide contracting tools, sourcing playbooks, and a regular cadence with CME purchasing teams (e.g., QBRs) to support consistent execution of group strategies.
  • Collaborate with Engineering teams to review drawings and specifications and provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) recommendations.
  • Evaluate tooling strategies, capacity planning, and supplier capabilities to support scalable production.
  • Monitor global steel and aluminum markets and proactively manage cost drivers and risk exposure.
  • Rationalize the supplier base while strengthening strategic supplier relationships.
  • Develop sourcing strategies appropriate for a build-to-order operating model with variable demand patterns.
  • Lead supplier performance reviews and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Interface with Engineering, Quality, and Operations to resolve any production-affecting materials issues.
  • Partner with Engineering on identifying new sources of supply for new products during the development phase.

  • Demonstrated experience delivering measurable cost savings and supplier consolidation initiatives.
  • Experience deploying category/commodity strategies through site-level purchasing teams in a multi-site and/or multi-brand (matrixed) manufacturing organization.
  • Experience with global sourcing, low-cost country strategies, and overseas supplier management.

  • Excellent project management and cross-functional team leadership skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong analytical, research, and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in strategic sourcing analysis, implementation, and contract administration.
