Full Job Description
Who You Are:

Ground Effects is currently seeking a Commodity Buyer to join our Purchasing team in Windsor, Ontario.

In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for assigned commodities while building strong supplier partnerships to support operational, quality, and cost objectives. You will lead supplier negotiations, monitor market trends, drive cost-saving initiatives, and work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders to ensure materials and services meet business requirements.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management

  • Lead supplier negotiations and secure the best commercial and technical agreements.
  • Manage supplier selection and sourcing activities for assigned commodities.
  • Support business case development and track supplier performance and cost savings.
  • Manage supplier relationships to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Conduct supplier business reviews and assess supplier capabilities and capacity.
  • Monitor market trends, supplier performance, and industry developments to identify opportunities and mitigate risks.

Cost Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive cost-reduction initiatives and value engineering opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and Project Teams to optimize cost, quality, and lead times during product development.
  • Promote standardization, modularization, and upstream supplier integration.
  • Support product launches and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities.
  • Maintain supplier, pricing, and part information within enterprise systems.

Supply Chain Performance

  • Work closely with suppliers to improve On-Time Delivery (OTD) and quality performance.
  • Manage supplier recovery plans and escalation activities when required.
  • Act as a key point of contact for supplier-related production concerns.
  • Support organizational supply requirements through effective supplier management and communication.

Health & Safety

  • Follow all Occupational Health & Safety requirements and company safety policies.
  • Participate in safety initiatives and training programs.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment when entering production areas.

Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Technical college diploma and/or university degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within the automotive industry.
  • Strong supplier negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • Knowledge of strategic sourcing, commodity management, and procurement best practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
  • Experience with ERP systems and database maintenance is considered an asset.
  • SCMP designation or equivalent is considered an asset.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers.


Compensation and Benefits:
