Our Transmission group is currently looking to add a
Commercial Manager to our growing team, based in Calgary, AB.
Reporting to the Director, Commercial, we are seeking a skilled professional with extensive experience in commercial and contract management, negotiations, project management, and financial analysis. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing the financial and contractual aspects of our construction projects, ensuring profitability, compliance, and risk mitigation.
Duties and Responsibilities- Support contract lifecycle, from tendering to execution, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry standards
- Participate in Contract Reviews and Lessons Learned activities
- Support project management team in change management related matters
- Ensure change management protocols are established during execution and implemented
- Support project teams with contract interpretation
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with clients, subcontractors, and vendors to safeguard the company's interests
- Support project team with validation of incoming change requests and subcontractor notices, where required
- Maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships
- Provide project management support, that includes risk management related to forecasting, scheduling, and performance evaluation
- Conduct financial evaluations of projects, analyzing budgets, forecasts, and cash flows to optimize profitability
- Work closely with estimating, project management, legal, finance, and operations teams to drive commercial success
- Identify potential risks in contracts and projects (including financial, legal, and operational risks), developing mitigation strategies to minimize impact
- Handle claims and disputes professionally, ensuring fair outcomes and minimizing financial exposure
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive dynamics
Requirements- Post-Secondary Education in a related field (i.e. business administration, finance, law, construction management, etc.)
- 5 years' experience in commercial or contract management, preferably in the construction industry
- Demonstrated expertise with contract law, and dispute resolution
- Strong financial acumen, with proficiency in budgeting, forecasting, and cost management
- Proven negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Competence in software such as Microsoft Office, contract management systems, and financial analysis tools
Preferred Skills / Qualifications- Commercial and project controls experience in large-scale EPC projects
- Working knowledge of construction procurement and subcontract administration
- Experience in transmission line construction
