Job Description

Cozen O'Connor is seeking an experienced Commercial Litigation Paralegal. This position will be based out of Chicago. This Paralegal must be comfortable prioritizing and balancing a variety of tasks. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and is willing to work flexible hours and overtime as needed. The firm is offering a hybrid work schedule of 3 days in the office, 2 days remote for all paralegals.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys in all stages of litigation
  • Assist in preparing and filing (including e-filing) of legal documents in state and federal court
  • Case file management (create, organize, track and maintain files; monitor calendars and meeting deadlines; document actions; input information into file database and case management software)
  • Document management including, but not limited to, review of documents, proofreading, bate labeling, organization of documents and compiling information for discovery responses, pleadings, and motions
  • Perform factual research and investigation
  • Lead subpoena and third-party records retrieval efforts
  • Draft correspondence and memoranda for attorneys as requested
  • Familiarity with e-discovery, including the technical aspects of collecting, reviewing, and producing electronically stored information (state and federal court)
  • Experience in Relativity, LiveNote, Case/Time Map, Summation, Adobe Acrobat, and Trial Director is a plus
  • Trial preparation and attendance at trial (organizing evidence, preparing exhibits, scheduling witnesses, ensuring that witnesses are ready when needed)
  • Prepare basic answers and objections to discovery, deposition abstracts, and other similar litigation tasks
  • Skilled at entering time in billing systems such as Laurel AI so that entries are not deducted for vague time entry descriptions or time that is excessive


Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years of paralegal experience
  • An associate's degree and/or paralegal certificate required
  • Experience handling Commercial litigation as well as trial experience is preferred
  • Experience with medical records and can prepare chronologies and record and specials summaries when records come in as a matter of course
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build a rapport with team and clients
  • Detail oriented, able to work independently, and possess excellent organizational and written/oral communication skills
  • Track record of juggling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

The salary range for this role is $85,000 - $105,000 and represents the Firm's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to, the candidate's relevant experience, qualifications and location.
