Full Job Description
The Traveling Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day field management of commercial construction projects, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans, specifications, budgets, and schedules.

This hands-on leadership role requires extensive travel throughout Hawaii, oversight of subcontractors and inspections, schedule management, quality control, safety compliance, and project closeout coordination. The Superintendent works closely with Project Managers, clients, subcontractors, and inspectors to ensure successful project execution from mobilization through completion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage daily construction site operations.
  • Supervise subcontractors and coordinate project activities.
  • Review and interpret project plans, specifications, and schedules.
  • Monitor productivity, quality, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Coordinate jurisdictional inspections and owner walkthroughs.
  • Maintain project schedules and ensure milestone completion.
  • Conduct jobsite safety meetings and enforce safety standards.
  • Manage punch lists and project closeout activities.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, logs, and project documentation.
  • Support Project Managers with change orders, cost tracking, and financial reporting.
  • Coordinate owner-furnished vendors, equipment, and materials.
  • Review and track submittals, RFIs, and project documentation.
  • Operate lifts and other site equipment as needed and authorized.


Qualifications

Experience

  • 3+ years of commercial construction supervision experience.
  • Proven success managing field operations, subcontractors, schedules, safety, and inspections.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and submittals.
  • Working knowledge of architectural, structural, and MEP systems.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with construction management software, scheduling tools, and project documentation.
  • Experience supporting project financials, cost tracking, change requests, and project closeout.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with owners, subcontractors, vendors, and project teams.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and stay on project sites for extended periods.
  • Ability to work evening, overnight, or extended shifts as project needs require.


Preferred
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification.
  • Experience in retail construction environments, including Walmart and similar large-format retailers.
  • Equipment certifications for forklifts, scissor lifts, or aerial lifts.
  • Additional industry training, certifications, or safety credentials.


Physical Requirements
  • Ability to navigate active construction sites, including climbing ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Ability to perform site inspections and communicate effectively in a busy construction environment.
