Job Summary/Basic Function:

Provision of primary care medicine to students, including assessment, diagnosis, and the implementation of a treatment plan in accordance with a collaborative relationship with the Director of Student Health Services. Emphasis is placed on primary prevention and health/wellness education. Reports to the Assistant Director of Student Health Services. This temporary appointment is anticipated to be for the period of summer and fall semesters 2026. Annual salary ($100,000 - $110,000) will be prorated as appropriate.

Job Requirements & Essential Functions of the Job:

A. Provision of primary care for student clients
  • Perform health assessment, including a history and physical examination differentiating normal from abnormal
  • Initiate diagnostic procedures and evaluate the results.
  • May occasionally be required to perform CLIA waived laboratory testing procedures in the absence of the medical lab technician
  • Formulate diagnosis
  • Develop and implement appropriate treatment plan
  • Prescribe and/or dispense medications
  • Evaluate care and reformulate plans as needed.
  • Make referrals for specialty care as needed.
  • Document clearly, concisely, and completely the care provided in an electronic medical record.
  • Use universal precautions when necessary.


B. Implement health teaching and counseling plans with individuals and occasionally for groups within the college community. Such activities focus on primary and secondary illness prevention and promotion of wellness.

C. Create, Implement, and Deliver preventative education programming/trainings to students and student leaders.

D. Assist with administrative responsibilities as needed
  • Inventory and ordering of supplies.
  • Maintenance of medical records.
  • Review of incoming medical and immunization forms.


E. Participate in ongoing development and quality management programs at Student Health Services
  • Serve on designated committees and attend meetings within Student Health Services, Student Affairs, and SUNY Potsdam.
  • Participate in personal and professional development activities, including continuing medical education. Research, service within professional organization, writing for publication, and professional presentations are encouraged.


F. Possess communication and interpersonal skills that enable effective
work with a diverse range of students and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner.
