SMS is hiring an ambitious, results-driven Cloud Sales Executive to drive growth for our cloud engineering practice • a team that designs and builds secure AWS platforms for commercial clients. With a 50-year background supporting the federal government, SMS established a dedicated cloud engineering practice in the commercial space in 2024, focusing on industries with high compliance requirements.
The Cloud Sales Executive owns the full opportunity lifecycle • from identifying and qualifying leads through closing. This role offers a path to building and leading a sales team as the practice scales. We're looking for someone who combines individual selling expertise and history with leadership upside.
Job Responsibilities - Own full opportunity lifecycle management: identify, qualify, develop, and close opportunities across commercial sector, with a focus on compliance-driven industries such as power, healthcare, finance, etc.
- Build and maintain a robust pipeline and meet/exceed quota and closure-rate targets.
- Develop deep understanding of client requirements, budgets, and award timelines, and shape solutions that clearly map our capabilities to client needs.
- Build and maintain executive-level client relationships.
- Support SMS's unique value propositions and differentiators using market and competitive insight.
- Support proposal, pricing, and quotation development.
- Manage opportunities and maintain CRM accuracy.
- Represent SMS at trade shows and marketing events that support capture objectives.
- Help define our Cloud BD strategy and, over time, mentor and lead a growing sales team.
Required Qualifications - 5• 7+ years generating commercial cloud opportunities, with a track record of meeting/exceeding revenue targets in IT-solution sales.
- Experience selling into commercial customers migrating workloads to the cloud.
- Strong working knowledge of the AWS ecosystem sufficient to act as a credible, trusted advisor.
- Strong new-client-acquisition orientation and consultative selling skills.
- Excellent, influential communication and presentation skills.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Role requires the passing of a background check.
- Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time.
Desired Qualifications - AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Cloud Practitioner or Solutions Architect Associate).
- Demonstrated leadership or team-lead experience (formal or informal).
Compensation & Benefits Competitive base salary $80,000 - $220,000 plus commission/OTE
