Cloud Engineer III to support the
Defense Enclave Services (DES) Operations & Maintenance (O&M) program, a major digital modernization initiative supporting the
Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) and Department of Defense (DoD) Fourth Estate customers.
In this role, you will design, implement, automate, secure, and sustain enterprise cloud environments across
Amazon Web Services (AWS) and
Microsoft Azure. You will serve as a Tier 3 cloud engineering resource, providing advanced technical leadership, troubleshooting, and operational support for mission-critical infrastructure and applications that directly support federal defense missions.
This position is ideal for a cloud professional with deep expertise in cloud architecture, infrastructure automation, security, and enterprise operations within complex, large-scale environments.
US Citizenship is required
US Clearance: Active DoD Secret clearance or higher is required to be considered.
Position Location: Ft Meade, MD
Salary Range: $155,000 to $170,000.
What you will do:- Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable cloud infrastructure solutions across AWS and Microsoft Azure environments.
- Deploy, manage, and optimize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using automation and orchestration tools.
- Support enterprise cloud modernization efforts, including the migration of on-premises applications, services, and workloads to cloud environments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex Tier 3 cloud infrastructure, networking, identity, and application-related issues.
- Collaborate with engineering, cybersecurity, operations, and architecture teams to ensure cloud solutions align with enterprise standards, security requirements, and mission objectives.
- Contribute to the design and architecture of highly available, resilient, and scalable cloud environments.
- Develop, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes to improve operational efficiency.
- Implement and enforce cloud security best practices and compliance requirements in accordance with DoD and Federal cybersecurity frameworks.
- Monitor and optimize cloud environments to improve performance, reliability, availability, and cost efficiency.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, engineering standards, operational procedures, and system runbooks.
- Support continuous service improvement initiatives to enhance cloud operations, user experience, and overall platform performance within the Defense Enclave Services (DES) environment.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to junior engineers and operations personnel.
What you will bring: - Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree and 10+ years of relevant experience; additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree.
- Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise cloud solutions in AWS and/or Microsoft Azure environments.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, ARM/Bicep, or AWS CloudFormation.
- Experience implementing automation solutions using tools such as Ansible, PowerShell, Azure Functions, or similar technologies.
- Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and working within DevSecOps environments.
- Understanding of Identity and Access Management (IAM/ICAM) technologies, including Azure Active Directory (Entra ID), Okta, CyberArk, or similar platforms.
- Strong knowledge of cloud networking, virtualization, storage, and security principles.
- Familiarity with Federal cybersecurity and compliance frameworks, including NIST, FedRAMP, and FISMA.
- Experience supporting enterprise production environments in an Operations & Maintenance (O&M) capacity.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional and distributed teams.
- Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+, CISSP, CySA+, CCNA-Security, or equivalent).
- Active DoD Secret Security Clearance or higher.
- U.S. Citizenship required.

- Strong Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, and DevSecOps experience.
- Knowledge of Zero Trust, ICAM, and Federal cybersecurity frameworks.
- Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, or similar container platforms.
- Familiarity with Jira and Confluence.
- Experience with enterprise monitoring, logging, and cloud governance tools.
- Proven ability to solve complex technical challenges and drive scalable solutions.
- Passion for mentoring teammates and sharing technical expertise.
At JCS Solutions, compensation is based on a number of factors such as location, qualifications, and applicable contract terms. The general salary range for this position is as follows: $155,000 to $170,000.
