Full Job Description
In this role, you'll contribute to Naval Operational Architecture (NOA), working alongside engineers and operators to deliver resilient, forward-leaning solutions in support of national defense.

About the role: PMAT is seeking a highly experienced Cloud Engineer III to lead the design, implementation, modernization, and sustainment of secure cloud, hybrid cloud, and edge-to-cloud architectures supporting advanced Navy and DoW mission capabilities. This role focuses on cloud architectures aligned to warfighter needs, distributed maritime operations, multi-classification environments, DevSecOps enablement, and secure platform modernization across AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, on-premises, tactical, and on-platform compute environments. The candidate will provide senior-level technical leadership to cross-functional engineering, cybersecurity, operations, and government stakeholders to ensure cloud solutions are scalable, resilient, secure, compliant, and aligned to mission objectives.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design and implementation of secure cloud architectures that support data-driven mission capabilities, warfighter needs, distributed maritime operations, and Navy operational objectives.
  • Develop hybrid edge-to-cloud architectures that integrate tactical edge nodes, on-platform compute, on-premises infrastructure, and cloud environments across operational and enterprise use cases.
  • Architect solutions across multi-classification environments, while accounting for cloud-based cross-domain considerations and multi-level security requirements.
  • Lead cloud deployments and modernization efforts across AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, on-premises, tactical, and containerized environments by aligning infrastructure, platform, networking, identity, and security requirements.
  • Implement and optimize DevSecOps pipelines by integrating CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, automated security scanning, configuration management, and secure deployment practices.
  • Ensure cloud architectures comply with DoW cloud standards, Impact Levels 4, 5, and 6+, Zero Trust principles, RMF requirements, cybersecurity controls, and mission assurance needs.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineers, developers, cybersecurity personnel, operators, program leadership, and government stakeholders throughout architecture, implementation, testing, and sustainment activities.
  • Support architecture reviews, technical planning, risk identification, trade studies, and stakeholder briefings by translating complex cloud design considerations into clear recommendations and executable actions.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Vast experience in cloud architecture, distributed systems, platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, DevSecOps, or related technical roles.
  • Experience designing, deploying, integrating, or sustaining cloud solutions in AWS, Azure, AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, or similar cloud environments.
  • Experience developing secure cloud, hybrid cloud, edge-to-cloud, containerized, or enterprise platform architectures.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, automation, configuration management, CI/CD pipelines, and DevSecOps practices.
  • Familiarity with containerization, Kubernetes, Docker, microservices architectures, and cloud-native application deployment patterns.
  • Strong understanding of cloud networking, identity, storage, compute, security, monitoring, and infrastructure operations.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams of engineers, operators, cybersecurity personnel, program managers, and government stakeholders in dynamic mission environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain architecture decisions, technical risks, dependencies, and recommendations to technical, operational, and executive audiences.

Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience supporting Navy warfighting concepts, distributed maritime operations, mission engineering, or associated mission capabilities.
  • Experience engineering, deploying, automating, and sustaining infrastructure within AWS GovCloud or Azure Government environments.
  • Experience with DoW cloud standards, Impact Levels 4, 5, and 6+, Zero Trust, RMF, cybersecurity compliance, system hardening, STIGs, vulnerability scanning, and patch remediation.
