Full Job Description
Role Description

This role is technical in nature and focuses on building and maintaining Microsoft SQL Server and Postgres databases. You will be responsible for the delivery of database support services to FNZ platforms hosted in public cloud environments (Azure and AWS), through Infrastructure as Code pipelines and manual builds.

The Cloud Infrastructure team is small, and each team member is given the opportunity to own significant parts of the solution end to end. The Cloud DBA is expected to work with the Cloud Engineers to develop the best possible database solution for our internal stakeholders to do our part in delivering customer success.

Organisational Design

The position sits within the Infrastructure department.

Team Responsibilities

Automate the design, build, and maintenance of database environments to ensure high availability and scalability.

Use monitoring tools to optimize performance and proactively resolve issues.

Implement automated backup and disaster recovery pipelines to protect critical data.

Enforce security through automated user and access management.

Diagnose and resolve performance issues using modern diagnostic tools.

Leverage cloud-native automation to scale storage and manage capacity efficiently.

Specific Role Responsibilities

  • Maintain and monitor Azure and AWS database services to ensure high availability and performance.


  • Troubleshoot issues, optimize queries, and meet performance SLAs.


  • Implement and manage backups, failover solutions, and disaster recovery plans.


  • Enforce security protocols and manage access controls.


  • Collaborate with the cloud engineering team to design, build, and run pipelines that automate database build and maintenance tasks.


  • Support database builds and project delivery while working closely with developers to optimize performance.


  • Participate in a global on-call support roster to address critical issues and maintain service reliability.


  • Stay updated on Azure and AWS technologies and share knowledge with the team.


  • Manage incident, problem and change management via FNZ's ticketing solution.


  • Participate in risk management and information security initiatives, supporting internal and external audits.


  • Manage escalations to the appropriate stakeholders.


Performance Assessment

  • Uptime and performance metrics in Azure and AWS.


  • Quality of security documentation and adherence to cloud security standards.


  • Backup and recovery test results, and DR plan performance in cloud environments.


  • Project timelines, quality metrics, and cost efficiency.


Experience required

Required

  • 1+ years of experience as a Database Administrator in Azure and/or AWS environments.


  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL, including database design and optimization.


  • Demonstrated ability or strong interest in working within dynamic, high-availability environments. Exposure to or eagerness to learn about mission-critical systems is highly valued.


  • Proven ability to work as an individual, with excellent self-management and time management skills.


  • Ability to participate in an on-call roster and perform some work outside normal business hours.


  • Superior problem solving capabilities and the ability to multitask and
    re-prioritise work in a rapidly changing environment.


Desirable

  • Experience with other cloud data storage services such as Microsoft Fabric or Power BI


  • Familiarity with cloud cost optimization and capacity planning
