Position Summary

The Clinical Operations Director plans, directs, and executes operational strategies for a large, complex clinical department. This role partners closely with department leadership to drive strategic initiatives, optimize operational performance, support business growth, and ensure high-quality patient care and service delivery. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director provides operational leadership across multidisciplinary teams and oversees key process improvement, financial, and organizational initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Operations
  • Partner with the Executive Director and Chief to develop and implement departmental operational strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, quality, access, and service delivery.
  • Lead planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of operational and business initiatives.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing, research, and administrative teams to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Develop, standardize, and optimize workflows across clinical and administrative functions.

Project Leadership & Performance Improvement
  • Lead complex projects and change management initiatives from concept through implementation.
  • Monitor operational performance using data, metrics, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Present project updates, outcomes, and recommendations to departmental leadership and physician groups.
  • Serve as an operational subject matter expert, addressing complex organizational and business challenges.

Financial & Business Management
  • Partner with leadership to develop, monitor, and manage operating and capital budgets.
  • Support financial planning, resource allocation, and cost-containment efforts.
  • Participate in contract review, negotiation, and management of professional service and external partnership agreements.

People & Team Leadership
  • Foster a high-performing, collaborative environment across teams.
  • Coach and mentor managers and administrative leaders to enhance operational effectiveness and staff development.
  • Support workforce planning, training, and performance optimization.

Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as a key liaison for affiliated practice sites, partner organizations, and hospital departments.
  • Coordinate operational activities across multiple locations and partnerships as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Experience
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in healthcare, academic medicine, or complex operational leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated success leading operational improvements, strategic initiatives, and cross-functional projects.
  • Experience in clinical and/or research operations strongly preferred.
