Full Job Description
The University of Virginia Comprehensive Cancer Center's Office of Clinical Research (UVACCC OCR) seeks a Clinical Research Education Manager to join the team.

This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a comprehensive education and training program for clinical research professionals and investigators within and supported by the OCR.

The Education Manager develops standardized onboarding programs, continuing education curricula, competency assessments, and educational resources that promote excellence in clinical research operations while ensuring compliance with federal regulations, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), institutional policies, and sponsor requirements.

This role works closely with OCR leadership and the OCR QA team to ensure standardization of work by developing standard operating procedures. They also oversee and mentor other personnel within the OCR education team.

Job Responsibilities include:

Clinical Research Education Program
  • Design, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive clinical research education program for research staff and investigators.
  • Develop standardized onboarding curricula for new Clinical Research Coordinators.
  • Create competency-based training plans that align with job-specific responsibilities.
  • Maintain an annual education calendar for required and elective training opportunities.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness using competency assessments, learner feedback, and operational metrics.


Curriculum Development
  • Create and maintain high-quality educational materials, including presentations, training manuals, SOPs and checklists.
  • Create and update educational content to reflect changes in regulations, institutional policies, sponsor requirements, and clinical research best practices.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop specialized educational content.


Clinical Research Coordinator/Investigator Training
  • Lead onboarding and orientation for newly hired Clinical Research Coordinators.
  • Develop competency assessments and learning pathways for CRC progression.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and educational support to research staff.
  • Develop and deliver clinical research training programs for new and existing Principal Investigators and Sub-Investigators
  • Develop investigator resource guides and reference materials


Collaboration and Leadership
  • Lead the OCR education team and oversee personnel on the team.
  • Partner with clinical research leadership to identify educational needs across disease teams.
  • Participate in development and revision of OCR SOPs.
  • Represent the Office of Clinical Research on institutional education committees.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional development.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelors Degree required. Advanced Degree may be required as specified by position.

Experience: 7+ years relevant professional experience required.

Licensure: None. Position specific Licensure/Certification may be required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ten years direct clinical research experience.
  • Clinical Research certification (SOCRA or ACRP).
  • Experience working with large teams of clinical research professionals, supporting their educational needs and ability to develop and implement processes related to standardized internal processes.
  • Experience with cancer centers and oncology clinical trials programs.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.

This is a restricted position, which is dependent on funding and is contingent upon funding availability.

This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.
