Function/Duties of Position

The Clinical Research Billing Compliance Manager provides leadership and oversight of oncology clinical research billing compliance activities, ensuring accurate, consistent, and compliant billing practices across clinical trials. This role serves as the subject-matter expert for research billing and supports implementation of standardized processes to improve billing accuracy, reduce audit risk, and strengthen revenue integrity.

This position provides program-level leadership and direction of billing compliance activities across the oncology clinical research portfolio. The Clinical Research Billing Compliance Manager is responsible for optimizing the standardized billing compliance framework, including the hybrid billing compliance model that integrates both embedded and centralized resources to ensure consistent, high-quality charge review and regulatory compliance across all disease groups. The role directs the work of CTMS Specialists and coordinates the activities of Billing Specialists across programs, establishing clear expectations, processes, and quality standards to ensure alignment and accountability. In addition, this position manages key operational workflows that directly impact billing compliance, including CTMS calendar development and Epic research billing protocol configuration. The Clinical Research Billing Compliance Manager ensures alignment between study design, billing determinations, and clinical operations, enabling accurate and compliant billing throughout the full study lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 7 years of relevant experience

Relevant experience must include:
  • Clinical research, billing compliance, or related experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading, managing, or directing staff or programs, including at least 1 year personnel managment experience
  • Experience interpreting protocols, contracts, and billing guidelines to ensure compliant charge designation

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of clinical research billing compliance requirements, including Medicare Coverage Analysis
  • Proven ability to develop and implement standardized processes, policies, and quality controls
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across clinical, operational, and financial teams
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time
  • Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills: both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Access, Word, and PowerPoint) on Window OS. Ability to accurately type 60wpm
  • Must have demonstrated excellent customer service skills both on the phone and in person
  • Must possess energy and drive to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Business Administration in Healthcare
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or science
  • Experience in oncology clinical research in an academic medical center
  • Direct experience with clinical trial billing compliance programs and audit processes
  • Experience leading or implementing a hybrid or centralized service model
  • Familiarity with CTMS (e.g., OnCore) including calendar and budget build processes
  • Experience with Epic research billing protocols, Beacon plans, and clinical ordering workflows
  • Knowledge of grant- and contract-funded clinical trials (i.e. industry and non-industry funding)
  • Experience with financial systems (e.g., Oracle/OGA) and research billing workflows
  • Demonstrated experience driving process improvement or operational transformation initiatives
