Responsibilities

This is specialized professional pharmaceutical work performing clinical pharmacology functions in the University of South Alabama Hospitals. An employee in a position allocated to this classification is responsible for developing therapeutic programs and specialized training and in-service programs for physicians and nurses; coordinating clinical research activities and investigational drug handling; developing protocols for clinical pharmacy services; monitoring medication errors and adverse drug reactions; and measuring the appropriateness and quality of drug utilization; work is performed under limited supervision by an administrative position and is reviewed for compliance with established practices and procedures; performs consultations and develops and coordinates therapeutic programs with physicians and nurses; develops and coordinates specialized training and in-service educational programs for students, patients, pharmacy personnel, nurses, and physicians; coordinates clinical research activities and investigational drug handling; measures quality and appropriateness of drug utilization; reviews/monitors medication errors and adverse drug reactions; develops, implements, and coordinates protocols related to clinical pharmacy services; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; performs related duties as required.

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.

Qualifications

Graduation from a recognized school of pharmacy with a Pharm D. degree and completion of a one year post-doctoral residency program; or Graduation from a recognized school of pharmacy and three years of clinical/hospital pharmacy experience. Licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of Alabama and Controlled Substances certificate. Completion of an approved Alabama Board of Pharmacy IV certification program is required within three months of employment.

Pharm D. degree preferred.
