University of Colorado AnschutzDepartment of PathologyClinical Pathology Medical Director; Assistant ProfessorJob Summary:This permanent full-time position in the University of Colorado, School of Medicine, Department of Pathology, based at the UCH Clinical Laboratory, is a clinical pathology practice opportunity for an academic clinical pathologist. The position includes the opportunity to be the primary director for the special chemistry section of the main clinical laboratory and/or the hospital's extensive point of care testing program as well as to participate in the leadership of other sections of the laboratory depending upon one's interests. The special chemistry section performs diagnostic testing using immunoassays, protein electrophoresis, hemoglobin electrophoresis, and other technologies. The point of care testing program currently offers 31 tests at 95 testing locations performed by approximately 5,600 operators using 521 individual devices. Over 50,000 point of care tests are performed each month. In this position you will support the functioning of multiple laboratories, including providing expert guidance for validating both FDA cleared or approved tests and lab developed tests (LDTs), advising clinicians on test selection and the medical significance of laboratory data, training medical laboratory scientists, and participate in pathology resident and fellow training. You'll also interpret protein electrophoresis, hemoglobin electrophoresis, and coagulation test results and periodically cover the on-call service for clinical pathology.
Key ResponsibilitiesFull-time clinical effort as a Medical Director in the University of Colorado Clinical Laboratories, participating in the clinical care, administrative management, teaching and research missions of the UCH Clinical Laboratory and the Department of Pathology is expected to include:
• Working hand in hand with UCHealth dyad partners and staff to ensure the smooth day to day operations and patient care provided by the UCH Clinical Laboratorie
• Routinely interpreting serum protein electrophoresis tests, assays for hemoglobin variants, and coagulation tests. As part of this clinical effort, the candidate should expect to work closely with UCH physicians, Clinical Pathology faculty, laboratory staff, and trainees.
• Pursuing opportunities for medically necessary, financially feasible tests to be performed in-house.
• Providing clinical consultation for tests performed within the laboratory.
• CLIA laboratory director responsibilities at UCHealth sites (e.g., free-standing emergency departments and non-teaching community hospitals).
• Participate in the development of lab stewardship tools, data analysis and utilization management strategies in the UCH Clinical laboratory. This role will include the performance of directed projects to assess and optimize test use across multiple clinical specialties and locations.
• Use the clinical and laboratory information systems to analyze and automate pathologist/scientist workflow processes to make professional time more effective. This includes pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic variables that reduce efficiency, quality, cost, compliance, and workplace satisfaction.
• 5% Providing clinical pathology on-call coverage.
Work Location:Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Assistant Professor:• Medical degree (M.D. or D.O.)
• Completion of CP or AP/CP Residency in Pathology with board certification or board eligibility in CP or AP/CP by the American Board of Pathology
• Qualify for a full unrestricted license to practice pathology in the State of Colorado
• Candidate must be able to obtain credentials/privileges at the University of Colorado Hospital and with CU Medicine
Preferred Qualifications:• Academic credentials with interests in other areas of clinical pathology and a relevant publication record
