QUALIFICATIONSRequired: Current applicable nursing experience with proven leadership skills, preceptor/educative experience, advanced nursing skills with knowledge of psycho-social concepts and problem resolution skills; Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Must be adaptable and able to maintain calm under stress and be flexible with priorities and activity. Must be willing to work varied hours with flexible schedule.
Preferred: BSN.
Lic/Reg/Cert: Current Oregon RN license.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDSMedium to high physical and mental demand capabilities required. Cognitive skills necessary to perform essential job functions using independent judgment. Physical demands same as RN II with hands on provision of care. Must be able to function during periods of stress, exposure to trauma and/or disease and possess the requisite visual, auditory, and fine motor skills of the nursing function.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Functioning as the charge RN, directs and supervises patient care within the department. Oversees daily operations of units and maintains awareness of patient status, ensures ongoing appropriate care management assignments and plan of care.
- Primary clinical focus (70-80%)
- Participates in evaluations of delivery of care modality, patient classification, staffing systems and assures appropriate scheduling/staffing of unit.
- Reviews patient care records frequently for appropriate documentation of care received and performs chart audits.
- Identifies and address staff education through clinical hands-on coaching/teaching and/or provision of structured education/in-service programs.
- Provides orientation and education to staff and nursing students in collaboration with schools of nursing.
- Supervises RN practice to validate professional competency of staff.
- Hires, terminates, counsels, and conducts performance evaluations and corrective actions of staff as required for the effective functions of the department (or effectively recommends same) in collaboration with the department director.
- Able to meet patient care requirements of staff RN job description and provide patient care as needed.
- Assist department director in creating, updating or reviewing all policies/procedures with evidence based research.
- Investigates patient complaints and handles appropriately in collaboration with department director/patient advocate.
- Monitor productivity daily, adjusting staffing levels appropriately. Facilitates appropriate rest and meal breaks for staff.
- Promotes current evidence based practice and appropriate implementation of standards of care.
- Accountable for the implementation and sustainability of new processes.
