ROLE
  • Coordinate daily surgical unit operations by organizing staff assignments based on patient acuity, census, and scope of practice
  • Support and promote best-practice standards and evidence-based care within the surgical team
  • Prepare staffing assignments and assist with scheduling to ensure safe, fair, and equitable nursing coverage
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify and support ongoing education, certification renewals, and professional development opportunities
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and one-on-one preceptorship to support staff skill development and onboarding of new team members
  • Promote and coordinate patient and family education initiatives through the surgical team
  • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams and patient care units to support patient transfers, bed allocation, and continuity of care
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Participate in on-call scheduling, committee work, and quality improvement initiatives to support safe and effective patient care
  • Advocate for patient and family-centred care while supporting process improvement, risk management, and sustainable healthcare practices


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current certificate of registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • 3 years of general nursing experience
  • 2 years of nursing experience in Surgical Services
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Current ACLS
  • IV Certification
  • OR Post-Graduate Certification/Experience
  • PACU Certification/Experience
  • CNA Perioperative Certification (desired)
  • Neonatal Advanced Life Support Certification (desired)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Location: Multi-Site, working on site at both the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) located in Bracebridge and Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) located in Huntsville. Applicants must reside within 125km of one of our hospital campuses or be willing to relocate prior to starting. *Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis

Hours of Work: Regular hours of work are Monday to Friday, however must be available to work shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements per the collective agreement.
