Responsibilities

  • Conduct specimen embedding and microtomy processes.
  • Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities.
  • Manage filing of tissue blocks and slides; distribute slides as needed.
  • Assist in supply inventory management and ordering.
  • Utilize the Laboratory Information System, Powerpath and Omni-Trax accurately.
  • Prepare frozen sections using a cryostat.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot histology equipment, including tissue processors and stainers.
  • Perform slide coverslipping, labeling, and special stain preparations.

Full Job Description
Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Clinical Histology Tech I.

In this role, the successful candidate prepares tissue specimens for pathological examination.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Specimen Embedding and Microtomy
  • QC/QA Participation
  • Filing of blocks and slides and slide distribution
  • Participation insupply inventorymanagement andordering if applicable
  • Proper use of LIS;Powerpath andOmni-Trax
  • Utilizing the Cryostat for Preparation ofFrozen Sections.
  • Utilizing,maintaining, andtroubleshooting allequipment; tissueprocessors (VIP &Peloris), VentanaNexus, XT, andUltras, and allhistology equipment.
  • Slide coverslippingand labeling
  • H/E and specialstaining andpreparation ofsolutions


Minimum Qualifications:
  • NYSDOH Licensed as a Certified Clinical Laboratory histotechnician, histotechnologist, technician, or technologist.
  • An Associates Degree from a relevant course of study as defined by NYS clinical laboratory licensing requirements. A highschool degree will only be accepted if the individual has the designated experience defined by NYS and has obtained their NYS license through the grandparenting pathway defined by NYS.
  • Experience required is 6 months - 1 year in a surgical pathology laboratory.
  • Exposure to Computer systems.
  • Good communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree. One-year experience in a surgical pathology laboratory. Certification in Histology.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $99,053.60 - $125,117 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
