The
Client Service Leader, Energy is responsible for developing and expanding client relationships, driving business growth, and leading strategic business development efforts within Barge's Energy market. This role serves as the primary relationship manager for key clients and prospects, working collaboratively across business units to identify opportunities, secure new work, and deliver exceptional client experiences.
The Client Service Leader develops and executes market growth strategies aligned with Barge's strategic plan while fostering long-term partnerships with clients in the power generation, electric utilities, renewable energy, battery and energy storage, transmission and distribution, natural gas, industrial energy, data center, and emerging energy sectors. This role works closely with technical leaders, project managers, and subject matter experts to position Barge for success throughout the project lifecycle-from opportunity identification and pursuit through project execution and client retention.
Success in this role requires a strong professional network, deep understanding of the energy industry, proven business development experience, and the ability to connect client needs with Barge's multidisciplinary engineering and consulting capabilities.
Responsibilities- Develop and execute business development and market growth strategies for the Energy market within assigned regions.
- Build, maintain, and expand relationships with key clients, prospects, industry organizations, utilities, developers, owners, operators, and strategic partners within the energy sector.
- Identify, qualify, and pursue opportunities aligned with Barge's strategic growth objectives and Energy market focus.
- Collaborate with business unit leaders, project managers, and technical professionals to develop client engagement strategies, account plans, and capture strategies.
- Lead client reconnaissance, account planning, pursuit strategy development, and opportunity pipeline management.
- Support workforce planning initiatives by identifying emerging energy trends, regulatory drivers, infrastructure investment opportunities, and evolving client needs.
- Develop and execute plans to achieve revenue growth, backlog targets, and profitability goals through successful project pursuits and contract awards.
- Collaborate with Marketing and technical teams to conduct go/no-go evaluations, develop win strategies, and strengthen competitive positioning.
- Lead or support proposal development efforts, interviews, and presentations, including scope, schedule, and fee strategy discussions.
- Represent Barge at industry conferences, trade associations, client events, and professional organizations to strengthen brand awareness and market presence.
- Maintain regular communication with project teams and clients to ensure project performance aligns with client expectations, quality standards, and business objectives.
- Facilitate issue resolution and support client satisfaction efforts throughout project delivery.
- Maintain accurate client, opportunity, and relationship information within Barge's CRM system.
- Actively manage business development expenditures and maximize return on investment for client development activities.
- May provide office leadership support and assist with local business operations and employee engagement initiatives.

Education & Experience Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Energy Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience within the energy, utility, power generation, renewable energy, engineering consulting, industrial energy, or related technical services industry.
- Demonstrated success in business development, client relationship management, account growth, strategic planning, and project delivery.
- Experience serving clients in electric utilities, power generation, renewable energy, battery energy storage, transmission and distribution, natural gas, industrial energy, data centers, or related energy infrastructure sectors.
- Strong understanding of energy markets, utility operations, power infrastructure, capital project delivery, and industry trends impacting the energy sector.
- Established professional network within the energy industry, including utilities, developers, owners, operators, contractors, and industry organizations, with the ability to develop and maintain strategic client relationships.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, presentation, negotiation, and influencing skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to identify opportunities, secure work, and deliver successful project outcomes.
- Experience developing and executing growth strategies, account plans, and pursuit strategies that drive revenue and profitability.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity.
- Existing relationships with key decision-makers within electric utilities, independent power producers, renewable energy developers, industrial energy users, cooperatives, municipalities, or energy-focused organizations.
- Experience leading strategic client accounts and managing large-scale energy infrastructure, power generation, transmission and distribution, renewable energy, grid modernization, energy storage, or utility capital improvement programs.
- Active involvement in energy-related professional organizations such as Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, American Public Power Association, Edison Electric Institute, National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, or regional utility and energy associations.
- Experience working with EPC, design-build, owner's representative, or multidisciplinary engineering consulting firms serving energy and utility clients.
- Demonstrated ability to develop long-term client relationships that result in repeat business, strategic partnerships, and sustainable market growth.
